    @#%*ing Rockstar Table Tennis

After reading through this message before posting it, I've realised it sounds a bit stupid, but I'm posting it anyway.

After reading many good reviews of Rockstar Table Tennis, I decided to go out and get the Wii version. Yep, it seems quite good, but something didn't quite seem right after me and Jnr had a quick game. Anyway, to cut a long story short, I've spent the past half hour wanting to scream my bloody head off at the game because I can't get it to do what I want in traning mode...

In Training mode - the serving practise mode (the one where you have to aim at the blue squares), no matter which way I gesticulate the remote, 9 times out of 10 it seemingly ignores which direction I've swung it in and serves it to the left. Doesn't matter what my positioning in front of the table is, it's left virtually every time. I've tried swinging right in an upward motion, downward motion, slowly, quickly, medium speed, also tried serving straight forward as it suggests... nope! It just goes left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left, left...

Being crap at a game is fair enough, however, following the instructions to the letter, only for the game to seem to ignore whichever way I swing the controller is just bloody frustrating, especially when it "fails" me and doesn't let me progress to the next section.

I've even tried another controller on the extremely unlikely chance there was something wrong with it that made it not register that it was being moved to the right

Anyone else had this? Am I missing something stupidly ludicrously simple here?

Mike, what are the controls like on the Wii? It sounds like it could be a little complicated as the spin system isn't as simple as say the tennis in Wii Sports.

Like Madduck, I'd played the game on the Xbox 360 and thought it was the best sports title I'd played in ages, seriously awesome fun. The controls were different on the 360 but really intuitive. It just used the two analog sticks, the left stick for aim and the right stick for spin. Worked very very well.

Hope you do manage to get to grips with the Wii controls, it should still be an awesome game if you can work it out.

Which control mechanism you got it on Mike?, you tried the more advanced mechanisms?.

Easy mode was supposed to be more frustrating than either of the two more advance control mechanisms.

    Madduck - thanks

Parm - the general gist of it is that you wield the wii remote in the direction of the part of the table you want to hit. You put spin on it by holding the d-pad in the direction you want the spin to go before you hit it.

TiG - I've only tried the easy control mechanism. Maybe I foolishly assumed that the 'easy' mechanism would be the easiest thing to do. I'll give it a try on the next one up and see if using the nunchuk makes it easier.

I have noticed it seems to want to swing one way too much. I wonder if it's the same as Wii bowling in that you can't swing it perfectly straight and it picks up the rotation which messes it up.

I need to get back on with Table Tennis, gave up trying to master it at Christmas due to pain in the arm...

Seem to have mastered it now. I'm not entirely sure why, but since I stopped trying to play it like Wii sports tennis, and did pre-emptive flailing, it seems to be a bit more accurate now.

lol - was playing it with my brother in law, and had enought time to chat and drink while 'flailing' early at the shots

much prefer wii tennis as you tend to get a bit more shouty and excited

Wii Tennis is definitely better as a "pick up and play" game with no particular technique other than "just swing the remote", but Table Tennis has much more longevity

I love table tennis, I love gaming, yet something is stopping me from getting Rockstar table tennis on the wii.... I've heard so many complaints about it. Hopefully there will be a sequel.

I just put my copy on eBay, got £15.90 for it. Had a few hours of fun, but it's too much like hard work to get anything out of it.
