    Wii Fit

Go on then, who's got one?

(and are the 'games' actually any fun?)

    Me

Just surfaced after picking it up at Tesco at midnight with my Wii-fanatic missus, which was followed by a few hours play. I was a little skeptical of it's physical benefits, but I'm a bit knacked now, so it works to some extent !

The board is an impressive bit of kit. Bit of an eye opener when you see how poor your balance is. The age thing is a bit simplistic and gimmicky, but still good fun. I'm 32 but my Wii fit age was 45 ! Missus is 35 and her Wii Fit age was 31.

It's also a fairly accurate set of scales, and it's quite handy being able to check your BMI and weight and chart it. We bought fancy scales a while back, but never use them, and they'll just be gathering dust now ! Much easier to look at your stats on the telly than on a tiny LCD disply on the scales.

The whole presentation of the software is very slick and friendly. There's many nice touches, as you'd expect of Nintendo. You have a male and female trainer to choose from, and you have a little 'Fit Piggy' into which you 'bank' all your training time. You even hear a little high pitched yelp when you step onto the board!

As far as the games go, most have to be unlocked. Good from a motivation point of view, but it means I haven't yet tried too many ! The ones I have tried have been really good fun. I was worried they'd be a bit simplistic, but they're more involving, and more tiring, than they look. And that's on easy and medium settings !

The whole package is really enjoyable, and we had a great laugh, though that may have been aided by a glass or two of wine. Its well worth the money in my opinion, and though many folk have been moaning about the price it's just the same as a game and a controller. The balance board will no doubt come in handy with other titles too.

    Big thumbs up from me

    Re: Wii Fit

Got mine on Saturday in Bluewater, was quite surprised that a lot of shops (bar HMV) had them still on sale as there was a supposed shortage of the things. Anyways, my parents had a laugh at my expense, but wouldn't try it out to see where their 'coaching' got them. Did 20 mins worth and was tired out a bit. 6 press ups killed me nearly!

So far I like it. If it makes me do that little bit of exercise then its all well and good. Its NOT a replacement to the gym though. It also has the typical Nintendo Brian Training type unlocks, so the more points you get (piggy fat!) the more stuff you unlock. Maybe triple cactus grasshopper yoga pose or something!

Hmm, might have to go buy one...

I tried my friends board with the game cover on and it felt weird though, oh and my foot size is bigger than that on the board. How about everyone else?

    Woohoo now Assistant Manager!

My size 12 feet fit on the board with no problems. The whole of the board is... err... 'boardy' - not just the smaller textured squares.

Just did today's body tests with the 'rentals. Watching them desperately moving their heads and hips in an effort to hit those little blue blocks is priceless.

    Re: Wii Fit

I used mine after an hour and a half of gym'ing and i can't see how this could possibly be used as a substitute for exercise, which i'm worried the adds imply.

But that said the yoga things are really quite excellent, the way your given feedback on your balance (mainting of which is the hard bit of yoga).

Its fun, but rather pricy for what it is.

I havent used one, but i wonder if they would be better aimed at the yoga / pilates type market than gym replacement?
I agree though that the ads (and the very name of it) imply about C-V exercise.

My first thought was "it's cheaper than a couple of months at the gym so why not". Maybe i had the wrong approach?

Its no substitute for proper exercise. I find the board a little to short for me to do press ups though. Having had it a while now, its good if you can stick to it. However I prefer running on a treadmill than the on the spot jogging.

    Re: Wii Fit

I`ve been using it nearly every day since I got it and I have lost a bit of weight but I am feeling a bit better. I am also playing football an hour a week as well so I am getting my health sorted.

I wounder which is entirely respsonsible for your weight loss!

The thing is the Wii fit might actually be good for posture, and balance exercises, i think the yoga whilst showing you your center of mass is excellent.

But to sell it as been "fit" i think is a little bit of lie.

    Re: Wii Fit

I dont know the Jogging and the hula exercises do get the heart beating fast.

I think using wii-fit in conjunction with other exercise is a good aid.

Even just using the Wii fit is better than doing nothing which a lot of ppl in the country currently do

    Re: Wii Fit

I get the feeling that the Wii Fit is only going to benefit those who puff and pant just because they lost the TV remote and have to get up to change channels But the general sentiment of something is better than nothing is definitely a good one. Bottom line is that Nintendo's new angle to make gaming more healthy and fun is to be commended really.
