    Windows Home Server Beta...

Jus wondering, how many people got invites on this?

Mine came through over a week ago, only just got round to downloading it. Anybody ahead of me that can shed light on what to expect?

    Cheers,

    Dave

I got emailed about it a few weeks ago, downloaded the ISOs and then reformatted this machine, woops!

Gonna get 'em again soon and stick it on an old TIME machine i've got here (Athlon XP 2400/512MiB RAM etc), hopefully it'll run it ok

Not really looked at it, but as far as I know it's just a stripped down Server 2003, so that spec will be more than enough. It's just a means of transferring data really - there's not an awful lot more to it, spec wise. You could probably run it in a VMWare XP on a Celeron and not suffer any noticable slowdown

I'll be building my box this week sometime. I actually think it's a pretty good idea - simplified server that automatically takes care of backing up your boxes and from what I read a simplified management of storage space

i got mine, havent had the time to download/install, but sounds like a great idea as its more simplified than using server2003 so more home users can use/configure it.

Does it come with IIS? (Or more importantly, IIS6 instead of the horrid IIS5 that comes with XP pro)?

IIS is certainly installed, as web management seems to be one of the options. I don't know what version is installed, however, as I'm not at home with the box I intend to run it on (Athlon 2000+ 512mb, 80gb Hard disk)
