    For Windows Media Player? no.

Media files comprise two parts - there's the ENCAPSULATION format, which specifies how data should be laid out in the file, and the CODECS sued to store the data itself. Examples of the former would be AVI, MPEG and QuickTime, examples of the latter would be DiVX, MP3, AC3, XViD.

So, you could have a Quicktime file containing DiVX & MP3, or an AVI file with the same codecs in it, but your media player would need to understand the encapsulation as well as the codecs. Windows Media player supports only MPEG and AVI encapsulation, plus OGM as well via a Directshow filter. To watch RealMedia files you need the RealVideo and RealAudio codecs, plus a player that understands RealMedia encapsulation.

if you download the Real Alternative from here, it includes all the codecs, plus Media Player Classic which is a 1mb player that supports MPEG, AVI, Quicktime, RealMedia, OGM and Matroska.

go into the MPC options, under filters. uncheck RealMedia Splitter, RealVideo Decoder and RealAudio Decoder.
