Clean install of XP - what apps to install? OK so I've just fired up a new machine configured with XP and need to install all those apps and utils that you need. I regularly setup new machines or do a clean install of XP and always like to install a number of "essential" or useful apps. My list of apps & utils I'm currently installing include: Acrobat Reader AVG Free FileFormatConverters for Office 2007 Google Earth Flash Java Nero or equivalent CD/DVD burning software DVD player software (PowerDVD, etc) QuickTime Alternative Real Alternative Spybot SyncBack Picassa2 PowerPoint/ Word/ Excel Viewers/ OpenOffice (varies according to what user has) Anything I've missed that's "Essential" or recommended? What about .NET Framework? Would you install a version and if so which one(s)?

Re: Clean install of XP - what apps to install? That's funny I developed a similar list myself a while back. I would additionaly install: 7-Zip Zonealarm TreeSize I always put on at least v2 .NET as I have found many applications require that (like nLite)

Re: Clean install of XP - what apps to install? Is it just XP or SP2? If just XP I uninstall MS' java thingy and install the latest Java, then .Net 2, then Flash. I also get rid of/stop/disable/block many things from MS and install what I want. PeterC Political lubricant: Rocket WMD45
