    Opera 9.51 out (Kestrel)

Very nice... faster and some neat new features too.

    Standard:

    Opera browser: Home page

    USB version:

    Opera@USB

BTW for those upgrading - do try the new default skin which you won't see as an upgrade by default (see Tools->Appearance)

Oo wow, it's getting there with the Acid3 test, big improvement on its previous score!

Apparently 2x faster at HTML? : o Any idea how/why?

Edit: Im impressed! Facebook and Gamespot no longer completely cripple my PC for 10 seconds or so.

Only problem seems to be Hexus forum pages not loading? and needing a few refreshes to get it loaded

edit - nope spoke too soon, a restart of opera fixed it

Loading OK here. Just backed up 9.27 (ready for that titsup moment) and installed 9.5 over 9.27 (saves setting up everything again). Seems a lot faster, even on Scan Today Only!

Yeah working really well - noticably quicker (which is amazing given it was bloody quick before). The new default skin is actually pretty good - a huge change there - and I do like the instant history search thang.

I do appeciate nice tight code

Browser choice is very subjective.. but that said you can't beat Opera for out-of-the-box browsing. It's small, light and yet feature packed. FF isn't, but has loads of plugins. Swings and roundabouts so to speak. Before anyone goes orf on one - i don't have anything against FF. Safari is a different matter

The only way you'll find out is giving it a decent go.

I'll need to gran this when I get home, using 9.27 there.

The big test for me will be the heavily javascripted SqueezeCenter default skin. Used to make Opera crawl. Although that might be due to running a 24" monitor of my laptop with it's crappy intel graphics from last year.

EDIT: Shame OperaMobile 9.5 isn't out yet, can't be long though as they are trying to get all releases at the same version number. Also the new HTC phones come with it integrated.

Give it a go, if you like it, yay! If you don't, sod it

I probably should take what I read with a pinch of salt, but a while back I saw comparisons between opera, firefox and internet explorer and opera basically came out on top for all (even security)

Pretty much as I posted above in all honesty - it's highly subjective. People swear by FF, Opera, IE7 and (even) safari. I will say it takes a while to adjust to any browser - so I do try one for a good day unless it's seriously flawed.

Bizarrely mouse gestures were disabled after updating - it's never done that before.

It does seem faster which is nice

    Re: Opera 9.50 out (Kestrel)

I find Opera (not upgraded to the latest version) slower than FF on a Linux platform, but that could be because I tend to have 20 or 30 tabs open (I just open new ones rather than re-using - bad habit!) and it is a bit of a memory hog (even with few tabs open) - but sujectively I prefer it over FF - but I have both and I use FF when I just want to look up something quickly and Opera isn't running.

As dangel says, browser choice is very personal and some will debate the merits/demerits of their favourite to tedious detail - nations have gone to war over lesser considerations!
