Unhappy Restoring sound in Vista... help please :)

OK... in the 'sound' section of Control Panel (where it lists devices for Playback), I stupidly clicked on 'don't use this device (disable)' for the line-out to my speakers (was trying to force Windows to play sound to my bluetooth headset, didn't work unfortunately)...

Problem is, now I can't switch it back on (as it's not showing as a option in the Playback menu)!

How do I get it back?

Please help, banging my head against a wall here... all I want is my speakers to work again

    thanks in advance!

right click on the 'my computer' icon, go to manage.
In the window that opens (after uac screen bit), go to 'device manager' on the pane in the left. Then 'sound, video and game controllers' and there should be an icon with a red x on it. Right click on that one and go to enable.

    Should do the trick

    Hi RoBe,

    Thanks for your reply, appreciated

When I go into device manager, under 'sound, video and game controllers' there are two items: 1)High Definition Audio Device and 2) Realtek High Definition Audio. Neither of these have a red x on them... Any other ideas?

Is there any way to 'rollback' changes made in Windows? (btw I'm using Vista 64)

    Thanks

    control panel->hardware and sound->sound

under playback right click on any item in the list

    choose "show disabled devices"

you ought to be able to see the disabled device and re-enable with a right click etc.

Dangel, you are a champion i knew it had to be something simple, but I just couldn't figure it out!!

All sorted now, thanks very much

Don't suppose you know how I can get sound routed through my bluetooth headset (Motorola S9's)? I've paired them fine and they're connected, but no sound Using a Belkin Bluetooth dongle, again all installed and working as far as I can tell.

    Cheers for the help!
