Ultimate x32 ISO 65% downloaded. Got to love free MSDN subscriptions from work! Think I'll try this on the laptop first...

I'm assuming the x64 needs signed drivers still?

Reports coming in that both downloads and product key generatoring for Windows 7 Ultimate and Enterprise (x86 & 64) have been disabled. Anyone know why? Or how many people have been affected (or effected?)?

It was when I logged in this morning. If you go to top downloads it will download from there and get the key for your keys page. If you go to downloads and browse it is greyed out.

Well my in place upgrade from build 7100->RTM on my work PC works... or seems to! Fiddled the minclient to do it of course but whahey!

Product keys are in the "my product keys" section - it tells you this when you click details. I just requested another key on that page and it worked fine.

Yup, all 64-bit Windows flavours enforce driver signing for security.

Thankfully not the issue it once was - on Vista i had to nerf it (permanently) to install nvidia drivers. Not so these days! huzzah!

Oddly I never had any issues with kernel mode drivers since XP x64 Edition - it was just printer drivers that threw me a curveball (was easier to go out and buy a shiny new one rather than hassle the manufacturer).

I even had USB keyboard & mouse drivers working with full functionality, which I was thoroughly prepared to have to battle with!

During the testing of Win7 x64 I was happy to find that all of my hardware had driver in-box or immediately pulled down through Windows Update.
Heck, even my bank's smartcard reader was recognised and works to let me VPN into work

Lucky I think it just took a while for companies to adjust to getting things signed properly - i can't remember when i stopped fiddling driver signing but certainly i've not had to do it on W7 at all. Actually, big up for W7's driver support - it generally sorts everything out for you out of the box (or via windows update) and that's pretty sweet.

the intel GMA 500 seams broken a bit on win7.

Its a simple updating of static areas when coming in and out of another user (think UAC prompts), its work aroundable (ie you win + D to force a refresh on the non updating bits) but its annoying!

If anyone has this problem, then it wasn't my RAM as it turns out (though I do have memory errors). No 32-bit programs wouuld load. Tracked it down to the HsMgr.exe file that is installed with the Xonar drivers (currently using the 8.17.71 beta drivers for my Xonar DX). When you kill this in Task Manager, the problem disappears.

If that fixes the problem, then disabling the starting of this file in msconfig should sort it permanently. Unfortunately it seems you'll lose certain 3D effects (usually those in games) until they fix it.

//edit: the patch ASUS issued for Vista x64 here ("Patch file for Xonar serial audio cards" issued on 16 June) fixes this issue.

MS never tried to make Windows 7 (or any version actually) uncrackable, but rather just enough to put the average person off.
It's all about time vs reward. No matter what system is employed, it will be defeated - it's simply a matter of when.

It was hardly "cracked" and the key used in "crack" has been already blacklisted from what I hear/read.
