| Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors What's CPU load like when using flash ie Youtube compared to Windows now? Any better than it was? Also is there a supported 64 bit flash plugin released yet? |

| HEXUS webmaster | Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors Yup 64-bit flash has been around for a while. It's been available on Linux longer than it has Windows. CPU usage is still worse than windows I think, then again I think that's more an IE vs other browsers thing than an OS thing. Fullscreen video playback is still a bit choppy at times, however. |

| Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors On my laptop, about 40%, on the nb, 100%, the nb skips around some, but what else would you expect from i945GME? And yes, there's a native amd64 flash plugin now. I'd like to try an ION nb like the Sammy NC510, to see if VDPAU does anything to take the load off Atom (as an IGP should). Can't say I've had any of the other issues. |

| Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors Kubuntu Netbook: ![]() I booted it in a VM to give it a try and while it seems like a great OS it's a bit confusing IMO - firstly it took me a while to find that Dolphin is hidden under System which could be a bit of a pain for a first-time user and when you minimise apps they just disappear, no icon for them or anything and although it says x running apps in the top right clicking it does nothing so the only way I could get them back up is with Alt+Tab. It is a first attempt at a Netbook OS by Kubuntu though but even so I would have though these were easily noticeable problems... |

| Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors I am trying Ubuntu NBR on my Acer Aspire One and it crashes frequently! Does not seem very fast either. I might have to switch to Windows 7 HP! |

| Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors Am surprised to hear this - what sort of AA1 do you have? Mine is an A150 model i think (specs are Atom N270, 512MB RAM + 1 GB RAM i added, 120GB hard drive). Mine doesnt crash at all. System as shown, plus: Akasa 965 HSF. Griffin Powermate that pulsates blue! Solid oak computer desk. Diamondback Razor. Logitech media keyboard. Western Dig HD Media Player. I will try it with Windows 7 as I am not sure that this is stable yet. I am not a complete linux noob... I do like/use ubuntu often - server version though... things work so well when there is no gui |

| Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors Yeah, just tested Kubuntu NBR, it's really not there yet (and it says as much when the installer starts). I couldn't really use this seriously. UNBR is much more polished off. Kubuntu itself, however, works rather well. The default theme could be a bit nicer (hard to see some tasktray icons over the backdrop). Originally Posted by Agent

| Re: Ubuntu 9.10 is up on the mirrors I gave moblin remix a spin as well, while nice and shiny looking, I didn't find it particularly pleasant to use. I think UNBR will stay on my netbook for the time being. Kubuntu has some samba quirks, so it'll be back to plain ole Gnome on the laptop as well. Tis a shame. Originally Posted by Agent
