Media Center in Vista beta 2 (32bit)

    Hi all,

Got Media Center in Vista working with my TV card (Hauppauge HVR1300) using the XP drivers from the Hauppauge site. Thing is, the picture quality is very poor and it stutters and breaks up quite a lot.

This card has a hardware MPEG2 encoder for the digital signals so to be usable in an OS it requires an MPEG2 decoder. Under XP Media Center 2005 I had to install an MPEG2 codec myself before it would even display a picture. Is the problem I have here because Vista does have an MPEG2 decoder but it's crap? If so, is there a codec that's known to work with vista?

    Cheers in advance

Would the codecs used with Vista be any different to older windows codecs?.. I wouldn't imagine so.

Maybe not but given that the display subsystem in Vista is changing in some pretty fundamental ways, I wouldn't be surprised in the least if it did, hence why I asked

The display from my sapphire 550pro is every bit as good as XP. AS for stuttering and such, hardware accelaration is not yet implemented as far as I know and code optimization is not turned on. Have to wait for RC1 for that.

hmm I did wonder why there are no "video" options in the Catalyst Control Center - that would explain it, thanks Myrdhinn.

Thanks for that! I've given up on it and gone back to XP with MediaPortal. Maybe not quite as slick but it works well
