The thread of Windows Experience Index scores

Here we are then, now that Vista is upon us, this is the thread were we can all post and compare our Windows Experience Index scores. Those of you unaware of the feature and wishing to find your own scores, please visit 'Performance Information and Tools' via Control Panel to get all the relevant data.

The scale of the Windows Experience Index ranges from 1 to 5.9. The higher the score for a particular performance area, the better performance you can expect from that area. The overall PC performance is represented by the base score. The base score is derived from 5 sub-scores for each of the following 5 attributes:

    · Processor - calculations per second

    · Memory - operations per second

    · Graphics - desktop performance for Windows Aero graphics

    · Gaming graphics - 3D graphics performance. Useful for gaming and 3D business applications

    · Primary hard disk - The data transfer rate of the primary hard disk

Right, that's the mumbo jumbo out the way! Here are my results:

Operating System: Windows Vista Ultimate (32bit) OEM

    Processor (Intel(R) Pentium(R) 4 CPU 3.00GHz) - 4.2
    Memory (RAM) (2.00 GB) - 4.9
    Graphics (RADEON 9800 XT) - 5.9
Gaming graphics (318 MB Total available graphics memory) - 4.6
    Primary hard disk (45GB Free (58GB Total)) - 5.2
    Base Score: 4.2

My PC is just over 3 years old now, I added a second GB or RAM yesterday before installing Vista and I'm pleasantly surprised with how smoothly it all runs. I personally am finding everything much smoother than XP.

So, post up your scores and let us compare!

Interesting that your 9800 gets the _same_ score as my X1800XT!

Dangel, mine might be old but it's still chugging along! Remember though, the gaming score measures 'desktop performance for Windows Aero graphics'. My card can do that fine but check the gaming graphics scores and yours leaves mine behind.

Yeah Trig, at the moment 5.9 is the highest. They have said that in future the scale will increase as newer hardware becomes available.

Sure they can, a P4 is better at SIMD, probably what the CPU rating is based on.
