Can anyone offer any suggestions? I am struggling a bit with this one!
Especially keen on stuff that can be picked up from a high street store!

I can really recommend Mega Bloks, got some for Emma when she was 1 and she loves them. Like big Duplo but they don't stick so well so they are easier for little hands to pull apart.
She is now 18 months and we got her a wooden play kitchen for christmas, plus all the bits and bobs, Granny and Grandad have got her the Mega Bloks play table which looks good.
Pop up tunnel? Cheap from Argos and hours of fun for them, the Chad Valley one is £10 and folds away nice and neatly.
Trampoline, again argos do one for about £20, I know Emma loves these.
There are plenty of things out there really, just go out and have a look, something will take your fancy.
At the moment I think we've got that list covered as we've got Hayden a doll, a pram, loads of megabloks and some other toys we know she plays with at the child minders but I've a feeling come christmas day none of this will be used or touched as she's too busy trying to figure out what all the adults are doing with their arms out infront of the TV playing on the kinect
She shouts "box box" all the time now after seeing me shouting 'xbox...kinect' and she now stands there in the front room wiggling her bum and waving her arms trying to get it working.
I may just end up buying her kinectimals as well to play on kinect as that looks good for kids
She's 18months old so don't go crazy she wont even appreciate it, use it, remember what it is in a weeks time.
Maybe look into setting up a bank account and putting some money in it for her?, We did this with the kids when they were young and have since persuaded them to put a little of their birthday/christmas money into it each year, it's amazing what they have now that will go towards a car or pay their insurance etc.
You could then spend a fraction of what you were thinking of spending and buy some cornflour and food colouring to make 'gloop' (mix it with water) which she will really enjoy playing with at that age and you can join in too
I must say I would disagree with that completely, if I ask Emma where her Mega Bloks are, she will go and find them, the first thing she does when she is near her toys is pick the bag up and make one of us open them, she loves them and plays with them properly.
She also uses most of her other toys and knows how they work, nothing gets forgotten about.
I guess all kids are different, what I found with my nephew recently who is 4, he gets that much stuff from all his relatives at christmas, things are easily forgotten about and tossed aside for the next thing. It's why I suggested something a little more future proof.
Kids at that age are all about the senses, especially different textures and colours, which is why 'gloop' makes an excellent and inexpensive way to have fun
Finally settled on a sort of sit on bouncing bunking bronco type toy from Argos where she can sit on it & it moves around bull riding style (I think). Cost an arm & a leg but hopefully she likes it, she is a very rough & tumbly girl so many fingers crossed!
Back to me avoiding this forum now, at least until my grip on things is restored! Cheers for the suggestions guys!

That's too naughty one. I think she is very active and strong and hope it will work out and she will like it and will have good fun with it.
you can give her a talking machine. She is really going to be amazing by seeing the device which talks.
Hate to say it, but I agree :/
Time spent playing with little ones seems to be far more appreciated than toys. They get so many from friends and relatives too.
The most played with item in our house at the moment? A length of pipe insulation from Wickes, 79p.
Its a lance, a sword, a bridge, a fireman's hose, a petrol filler, a finishing line for racing, a fishing rod, a fire shooter (whatever that is!!) and million and one other things.
I'm not saying our little lad doesn't have his fair share of toys (some really great, some played with once and ignored), but they don't need much really, and watching their little imaginations go wild with what we think are fairly boring things is amazing
I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.
the maisy 10 pack, Lucy gets us to read them over and over, she will sit there and go through all 10 books (about 10" square) and now knows all the animals in the book, we are getting everything maisy related and she bloody loves it.
just enough per page to keep her looking and not enough for her to get bored like mr men books.
