    Re: Rite of Passage thing

Wow! Somehow I think my step-son would hate that kind of trip. My 10 month old however I've got plenty of time to get him into this kind of thing. Used to love doing this kind of thing as a kid with my Dad, cadets & D of E, hope I've not forgotten the skills I learned.....hmmm time I dusted off the tent and got the family into camping as a starter.

I finally got around to finishing my account of the trip. It's pretty long, so be warned, but it does have a kit list near the beginning which might be useful.

    Re: Rite of Passage thing

    Hehehe, cool.
I'll upload the pics for the 2nd and 3rd trip to G+ and send a link, for those that are interested. I stuck them up on FB originally, but forgot to put them on G+. Life is too hectic.

2nd trip was in the Dolomites in 2016 - amaaaaaaazingly beautiful - with the 2nd son.
3rd trip was this year, on Gran Canaria, with the 3rd son. Did 60 miles in some very hilly, very dry country - and I thought he was the 'weakest' of the 3, physically. Kids are amazing.

All boys now ticked, and very much benefited from the experience.

One can never stop saying Thank You

    Re: Rite of Passage thing

Here's the link for the pics to the 2nd trip, in July 2016.

The location in the Dolomites was awesome. My son suffered quite a bit, as you'll see in the album description. Nothing insurmountable, but it was hard going.

    Hope you enjoy.

All pics on a little Panasonic FT5 compact waterproof camera.

Thanks, man. Special times with my kids.

Since taking those two trips, I've moved to North Wales and am getting certifications, towards setting up such trips in these mountains as a way of fostering relationships between fathers and sons (and daughters). One day I'll have lift off.

well Snowdonia and the surrounding area is the best place for it. And you're close to Port Meirion and some great beaches so you can get loads of challenges in there , including with care, some great forraging.
I'm jealous. I'll never live there, my missus doesn't love it like I... but I have spent weeks driving those roads, in all weathers, enjoying the sheer mjesty of the mountain . Makes me smile that you'll be doing what you love, but here in the UK.

And the food is good.. some great producers to be found.

just duck when the fast jets are in training ;-)
