Thumbs up I took my family on a little canoe thing...

Thanks to limited time off work (1 day, to be exact) combined with a long weekend, a brainwave, and a borrowed canoe (plus my inflatable), my family and I made a quick journey to Wales for a canoe trip on the Wye river.

Bivvying en route (avoiding camp sites), making it up as we went, we had a lot of fun.

Numerous small rapids, paddling in a strong downpour, amazing sunshine, great blessings, rainbows, flowers, fish, campfires, the biggest second hand bookshop in the world, no capsizes, excellent companionship. Faaantastic memories for all of us, especially to be doing it with my kids. Highly recommended.

That looks like a great way to spend a bit of family time. Beats the road trip in a seven seater type of break that we end up taking. I'll run it by my wife to see if she would be up for something like that.

Nice part of the country - we stayed in some Tipis nr Hereford and the Wye. If you heard screaming kids about an hour out of Hereford they were probably mine.

How did you get along with the inflatable canoe?

The inflatable was fine, albeit slower than the Canadian.
Inflatable was also more stable / less worry for any rapids - very unlikely to overturn, whereas the Canadian takes more skill to keep upright

One can never stop saying Thank You

Thanks for the pics; looks fun! My kids would only go if they could dress up as pirates.
