Re: EVE Online - Worth a Try??

I have a friend who is constantly playing the game. I haven't tried it myself, but he is really obsessed with it. Always browsing the forums on his phone haha. There are trials available, so you may as well go and try it out. People say it takes a while to get into it, you may not like it so going for a trial is a wise choice.

Re: EVE Online - Worth a Try??

EVE is a fantastic game to play... providing you put a lot of time into it. Unfortunately, for me, it seemed like you had to stick it out a long time in LowSec areas just to even get to the point where you can venture forward and do more interesting things - but if you really are into your Space Sims then this game (in terms of online multiplayer) is pretty much the best game out there - it has had YEARSSS of polishing and the standard of the game now is fantastic.

    tl;dr
Yes, it's a fantastic game and I recommend playing it if you are willing to put time into it.

Re: EVE Online - Worth a Try??

I wouldn't say that's entirely accurate - you don't need to put a lot of time in, just some. It helps if you play with people who spend a reasonable amount of time on it, but I have a corp mate who does maybe a couple of hours a week at most. He enjoys it a lot, although wishes he could spend more time on it. You do get more enjoyment out of it long term if you put a bit of effort in.

It really is a unique game. If you like to be able to set your own goals and do whatever you want (including being a troll), then it's worth a look.

EVE's worth a try more than it's worth playing, now I think about it. It can certainly be extraordinarily good fun if you enjoy playing it, but I almost think it should be put on the "required playing list" of every gamer out there, if only to experience the uniqueness of it and to see what's possible in a game.

Sadly I've seen so many people give up when they finish the tutorial missions and ask "How what should I do" and get told "Whatever you want".

A sandbox is very different to the way other games work.

It's interesting when you consider that one of the most successful games of the last few years is a sandbox without instructions...I wonder what it is that makes someone persevere without a tutorial as opposed to quitting after having had one?

Re: EVE Online - Worth a Try??

I played EVE Online for about 6 months and really really enjoyed it, there is just so much to do and you can play it as much or as little as you want as your skills still keep training even when you don't play the game.

Now why did I quit, 2 reasons really 1. At the time I was playing I was a very poor student and would rather spend the money on Alcohol/Pub and 2. I went into a low-ish level sector got my @ss handed to me and had forgot to buy insurance and promptly rage quit!

Might give it a go again sometime soon however I have a ton of games that need playing on both the PC and PS3 first.

    EVE: Zak's potted review:

If you have several days put aside to JUST play, read.. .learn... and you enjoy challenges.... do it. SO many people I like and respect LOVE IT... and they ARE right.

If you don't..... you'll struggle like an ice cube in a hot bath..... you MIGHT make a small impact on your surrounding, but you won't KNOW cos you'll be swallowed up.

I think like ALL MMPORPG's, IF you meet a kind soul and IF you show them some resepct and IF you get on.... they'll bung you some cash after you've had a few mares... and take you under their wing.

Me... ? I totally hated every painful hour and I deleted it !

    You grumpy sod Zak!

I do enjoy it but only when I'm in with a community. I find it quite hard to play on my own. This is one of the reasons I haven't played solidly for a bit I've just been skill building at the moment.

I did have a friend who played a lot and helped me out with a load of cash but he hasn't been on for a while.

I am up for getting into it again. Doe EVE university have any restrictions on skill level? I'm an on off player with a Raven as my main ship but I really need a refreshed course!

I enjoyed Eve Online when I played it a couple of years ago but as other people have said you need to dedicate a lot of time to the game to get the best out of it.
