Re: Is it hard to get used to PC gaming? Is battlefield 3 more fun on PC that xbox?

In my opinion, and i am a hardcore PC gamer, PC games look better. You have more freedom with custom designing and building your machine, and as most Operating systems currently run 64 bit they are powerful, however a ps3 currently runs 128 bit, which means that games are being intricately designed to suit them, which means less freedom, and less choice. with a PC, there is a far larger and wider community, and more games are available for PC than any console. You choose what you want, when you want, the downside is to keep up with the high end games you need high end gear which can get pricey, but you wont have to buy a new console every few years and as it acts as a gaming console, communication device, work station and everything else, a PC is a far better choice. =)

Re: Is it hard to get used to PC gaming? Is battlefield 3 more fun on PC that xbox?

BF3 looks so much better on PC, and as to getting used to pc gaming, it's just a matter of getting used to it I think. With enough practise you'll eventually get the hang of it. I've been a PC gamer for years but when I try to play on consoles im rubbish but after a while I progressively get better

Re: Is it hard to get used to PC gaming? Is battlefield 3 more fun on PC that xbox?

I had a 360 from the day they were released and ive had my pc for about a year, I can honestly say that when i first had the pc i hated it i had to use a controller in every game that would let me use one because its what i was used to. But now its completely the other way around , now ive used the mouse more i realise the level of control with the mouse is so much better than a thumb stick on a controller, and as for the subject of graphics the pc wins every time without fail

PC is the only way to play FPS games properly.

Yeah PC gaming feels so much better with the amazing graphics and support for more players. Alot of games also support Xbox controllers if you want. The only issue you may have is coming from controller to Mouse+Keyboard, everyone else online may be way better than you .

I will second the FPS claim.

Mouse and keyboard are more accurate IMHO but (to use another acronym) YMMV :-)

It is a lot easier to go from console to PC than it is to go from PC to console. PC controls allow so much more freedom of movement and control as well as precision plus it is easier to add a joypad to a PC then it is to add a keyboard and mouse to a console.

Re: Is it hard to get used to PC gaming? Is battlefield 3 more fun on PC that xbox?

    /\ wow

a few years ago "PC gaming was dead" and now... the truth is out.

In actuality, it's down not to graphics... not to frame rate... but to controls.

A game controller has a pair of small thumb pads, and lots of buttons .. all close by, I concende.. but the movement is........hampered.

A good console player is remarkable.. but an average PC player, on the same game... would own them

and THAT Is why it's hard to get a console to run a keyboard and mouse properly...because if you did.. the console players would all be dead.

A mouse is, by it's nature, accurate, adjustable and pin sharp accurate.

A keyboard, buy it's nature... works with a mouse to it's side

the combination means that, even with minimal practice, moving up a a stairwell "ingame" , checking corners and rotating, back stepping and lookingup into the next level of the stairway is ... second nature.

sadly not so on a console.

HOWEVER... moving from one to another after years is gonna be HARD!!!

People were putting forward the idea that PC gaming was dying a slow and painful death because publishers/developers weren't getting it right, they were putting out badly ported console games, not modifying and optimising for the hardware or peripherals on a PC properly and then giving limited support. BF3 has almost done a complete u-turn on that logic and infact its gone a long way towards saving the FPS gaming industry on the PC.

I also wouldn't be too sure on the whole second nature thing... i have seen people play on PC games who are traditionally console players and its pretty funny!

One of the other advantages of BF3 on the PC is that you can use a 3rd party voip program (we use teamspeak 3) and not only put a whole new dimension to the game with regards to teamwork, but you can get to know some really interesting people as i have done over the last year or so

Indeed. I missed your last comment last night. I was a tad busy !
Then you left. What did you say ?

In a nutshell, better graphics, better sound and better controls. The price is higher but the games are cheaper, and you have a device that will also do real work, as well as play your DVDs, rip your music etc etc

Oh the server we were on was a bit dodgy, one of the teams were toggling hacks on when they needed them. Tried shooting with an assault rifle and missed, popped round the corner then came back with a M9 pistol from 200m and headshotted me...

Couldnt be arsed after that round ended!

Yes - I got a bit of that. I did get a lot of satisfaction of shooting them in the back with the SPAS. I was only on to get the achievements and all the Scan servers were full !

Re: Is it hard to get used to PC gaming? Is battlefield 3 more fun on PC that xbox?

I dont know if Ill be repeating anythings people have already said but:

PC gaming far exceeds console gaming in terms of quality. The graphics option available to a PC player embarrass that of the Xbox or PS3!

Specifically, BF3 has the folliwng advanatges of being on PC:

    - Huge increase in quality of graphics
    - The potential to be played @ 60fps (depends on hardware), compared to the consoles locked at 30fps
    - The ability to play with up to 64 players on larger maps, compared to 24 players and restricted maps on consoles

PC gaming is hard to get used to; going from a controller to Keyboard and Mouse is quite a challenge (atleast is was for me) that can result in aching fingers! But after a while you'll get used to it and wont go back.

Since I got into PC gaming, my xbox is simply a DVD player, my xbox-live ran out last year and Ive never once had the urge t renew it.

    In conclusion then:

    - PC gaming > Console gaming
    - BF3 on PC > BF3 on consoles
    - PC gaming needs getting used to, but once you do, there'll be no going back!
