how come i dont have permission to run stuff on my own computer?

my set up is in the my system thing and im running vista premium (64bit)
its all been running fine untill thursday last week when i sent back the PSU. the new one arrived yesterday and since then iv updated AVG and installed crysis. but now when i try and open STALKER shadow of chernobyl i get a pop up saying:

"windows can not access the specific device, path or file. You may not have the appropriate permission to access the item"

any reasons why? also why dont i have permission to do something on my own computer?

iv uninstalled and reinstalled STALKER twice and it still says that. iv installed it on another computer, which seems to start STALKER ok but cant run it because its page file is too small, then coppied everything across to my big computer, but it wont let me copy the aplication file. when i try i get a pop up saying:

"you need permission to perform this action" and the options i get are "try again" or "cancel" but when i chose try again i get the same pop up again

any suggestions of things i can try to get STALKER running again? and anyone know why i dont have permission to do things on my own computer?

    thanks

Not sure I get what you are doing, copying crysis from one machine to another? Why not just install it using the dvd?
In the internets, no one can hear you sarcasm.

I dont think the psu is the culprit. Uninstall AVG as that is the only other change you have made.

Also try running Stalker from the exe file in the game folder. If it runs then go to the desktop icon and right click go to properties and look at the "Target" pathway and ensure it is correct.

I hope because you are logged on as a user, not an administrater and you haven't set the permissions properly. However it is more likely that the AV is interfering with something.

(Running as admin is bad because it means that anything that does get past the firewall/AV then has admin priveleges on your computer - a BAD thing!)

All A/V software has a feature that can exclude certian directories from scanning.

If disabling AVG (dont bother uninstalling it yet) allows stalker to work, try excluding the stalker dirs from AVG's resident shield.
To do this, open the AVG console.
Got to the tools menu and click advanced settings
Expand resident shield and click exceptions click add path and enter the path to the stalker directories there
