USB 2 Motherboard Internal Header cables

    Hi

10 pin Female USB 2 motherboard header cable to 2 10 pin male USB 2 connectors.
Is there such an animal, and if so where can I purchase one?
Thanks in advance for any information
    Altair.

    This?

Although I can't understand why you would split a connection like this. You can't just split a USB header and get double the ports on it, you need a hub to do the work.

If you have more ports on your case than your motherboard will provide, you can either have unconnected ports, or get a USB card to let you use the ports.

Re: USB 2 Motherboard Internal Header cables

    Hi! :-)
Thank's for the information. I hadn't realised you couldn't split the header to use two 10 pin usb connections off of it. I assumed that being's as you can fit a backplate with two usb 'A' female connectors that used the motherboard 10 pin usb header, you could also use something along those lines as I described internally in a comp. case.
Okay!, thank's also for the link to the 'moddiy' site btw. I hadn't known of this site before, so i'll see what they have there that might be suitable. :-)
    Thank's once again,

    Altair.

Re: USB 2 Motherboard Internal Header cables

The ten pin connector is *already* 2 usb ports - each USB port only requires four wires, so they can connect two to a 10-pin header. What are you wanting to connect to the header? Is it the USB ports on your case, or some other device? There are plenty of USB peripherals and connectors available so I'm sure there's something suitable for the job

Re: USB 2 Motherboard Internal Header cables

I wasn't endorsing Modity, they were just what came up in a search.

If you look in your motherboard manual, you will see the pin out for both USB ports in that connector. There are loads of different back planes with two USB headers you can use, really easy to find too.

Are trying to do anything special here, or just get as many USB headers as possible?

Re: USB 2 Motherboard Internal Header cables

    Hi again

As you can possibly tell, this bloke posting (Altair) might have enough knowledge to build a computer, but dosen't have a good grounding in basic electronic connections. Still, he's just learned that a 10 pin usb motherboard header is basically two connections...so there is still a fair chance for his second present computer build to be successfull, now that he's grasped the basic fundementals of a 'USB' motherboard header on a Gigabyte GA-Z77 D3H motherboard. Lol! :-)
    Okay, seriously...
I'm building up this computer. The build is all going to fit inside an 'old' Coolermaster Praetorian 732 All Alluminium case (It's still in very good condition). The case has two front 3.5" drive bays (it originally had a 3.5 floppy drive)...so to be brief, I thought I'd fill these up with something a little more useful. I bought and fitted (From Scan) an Akasa jr Fan controller, and an Akasa Card reader (Baymaster 2.5 SATA HDD/SSD drive dock x 4 slot mcr.)
The card reader has a 10 pin USB Fem./connector (to MB.),while the Fan Controller also has a 10 pin USB Fem./connector for the two external A type USB sockets at the front.
I've also got 2 A type USB sockets at the top of the case (under the spring cover/latch, which is supplied by a 10 pin Fem./connector to the motherboard.
So, I've got (inside the case) 3 10 pin USB header connections but only two USB 2 connections on the motherboard.

There is a USB 3/2 twenty pin header also on the motherboard btw. so...

I just wanted to be able to use the two USB's on the front of the fan controller, mainly because they're 'there'. It's no problem if they are not used, as there's loads of external USB ports on the back panel of the motherboard, plus the two top case USB sockets will also be used. I'm just 'pernickety' I suppose in the sense that if there are external connections on the case then they should be functional. In retrospect I should have bought the other more recent version of the Baymaster Card Reader, as that has a USB 3/2 connection I think...probably would have been the better move? ;-)
Anyway, excuse the long post, but being's as you folks have been so helpfull I thought you deserved an explanation! :-)
I've at least learned something useful about USB ports! :-)
@Funkstar :-) no problem with 'moddity' btw, I'ts always interesting to see what components are available, I most often than not get 'stuff' from Scan anyway.;-)

    Cheers,
    Altair.

Re: USB 2 Motherboard Internal Header cables

You should be able to find a cable that will let you do from the USB3 header on the motherboard to USB2 on the fan controller.

USB3 is a little odd. If you plug a regular old USB cable in to a USB socket, it works like any USB2 socket. If you use a new USB3 cable, with the extra pins specifically for USB3, then it obviously works at USB3 speeds.

I'm on a really dodgy slow internet connection and I can't be bothered waiting for the motherboard manual to download, or go hunting about for cables for you at the moment ( ) but i'm pretty should you should be able to get it all working.

Two more options you have to get the front ports working:
    1) get another internal USB controller card and attach to that. Would be a bit of a waste though
    2) get an "external to internal" USB cable (might not actually be called that). They plug into the USB headers on the back of the case, you feed the wire inside and plug in the internal header. There you go, front facing ports!

Don't worry about it, you'll get there, we all learned this at one point

Re: USB 2 Motherboard Internal Header cables

Briefly...after an extensive search on the UK component sites no luck ;-)
BUT!...found this on your provided link Funkstar, USB 3 to 9pin male connector SKU U19F-U9M £6.29.
    Thank's once again

    Also available from Scan: http://www.scan.co.uk/products/140mm...-adaptor-cable

edit: although it's on pre-order, so possibly not ideal...
