Can't boot from NVMe SSD on Z97

Hi Hexites,

I recently bought the Toshiba XG3 NVMe after confirming that it can boot from it:

I find that I am able to manually boot from the NVMe if I do the following:

1. Copy nvmexpressdxe.x64.efi to a USB stick
2. Run the EFI shell
3. Run fs0: to enter drive
4. Enter dir and load nvmexpressdxe.x64.efi
5. Run map -r to reset the mapped files (can remove USB stick at this point)
6. Select the right disk, for me it's fs2:
5. Enter dir, cd efi, cd boot and then run bootx64.efi

(I've tried many solutions on Google so thanks to ramdisk77's post here: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answer...oot-drive.html)

Now surely if I can do this manually there's something I can do to get it to work? I've looked through my BIOS options and I don't believe I've been missing anything - I wonder if anyone else had a MSI Z97 motherboard that went through the same thing as me but managed to solve it?

presume you're only running one drive and not trying to RAID it? When I last read up on this I don't think you can RAID NVMe and get them to work as a boot drive.

Yep, I'm only using 1 boot drive. For setup I also tried both removing the other drives and also tried installing with other drives connected.

Try contacting the manufacturer of the mobo for support now. It might take a couple weeks for an answer - so worth a try now, with as much info as you can supply.

Other than that, I bow out, not having owned a Z97!

Have you been on the OCZ forums to see if anyone has a fix, as you probably know Toshiba will not support you direct with it being OEM but the OCZ forums may have an answer?

Also, probably a stab in the dark have you secure erased it yet?

You could try updating the EFI modules with UEFI BIOS Updater (UBU), most manufacturers don't seem to use the latest
