    Nvidia to purchase Ageia

Nvidia to purchase Ageia | The Register

Only a matter of time before somebody did it
Graphics chip giant Nvidia is to purchase the last major independent physics house, Ageia.

The price and many details of the acquisition aren't being disclosed, but Nvidia said more information will come during the company's quarterly earnings call on February 13.

makes sense, let the graphics card deal with some physics

I have to admit to having a phys-x card, for what it's worth as it tied in with some of my favourite games.

But it does make more sense to have them on-board with the GPU. Like I said, was only a matter of time.

    Re: Nvidia to purchase Ageia

Did you notice any difference with it? It reminds me of the olden days when you bought an external FPU because the CPU didn't have one!
I'd read somewhere these physics chips were going to be integrated onto motherboards or GPU in the not too distant future, looks like it's about to happen.
I can see they may be useful in the future but for the time being I don't think the games we have are complex enough to warrant it, probably a big chicken and egg as well though.

In games like GRAW2 & UT that were engineered with it mind, yes there was a (slight) difference. But not one imo that would warrant a purchase. I got it out of curiosity more than anything.

I was hoping AMD were going to buy them
