Which i7 board?

I see three boards which meet my requirements, which are available from the vendor I'm currently tied to:

* Asus P6T
* Gigabyte EX58-UD5
* Gigabyte EX58-UD4P

I can't see any compelling reason to pick one over the other, though.

Thoughts?

Presumably, some are cheaper than others - does that not provide a compelling reason?

I haven't read any reviews about the Asus P6T, but I've heard good things about the Gigabyte X58 boards.

I take it you've given up on your XFX board?

From the reviews i've read they're all very good boards. I've got the P6T and think its great, plenty of options for tweaking and plenty of connectors for drives etc. Do you plan on doing any ocing or just leave everything at stock? review for the P6T can be found here http://www.bjorn3d.com/read.php?cID=1458

It's an early sign of insanity, to do the same thing repeatedly but expect different results.

What should I expect from a third XFX board?

As for cheaper... I dunno how awkward it will be to try & claim the difference between the XFX and its replacement as cash rather than store credit

Hm, P6T and EX58-UD4P seem to be pretty much on a par - although Gigabyte have better power regulation circuitry. The UD5 adds a second etherweb connection, 2 SATA ports, and dual BIOS. Plus better cooling and a debug LED display

If money is not an issue because of your refunding position, then I say go for the UD5.

Well given your experience of the xfx and the stories around Asus warranties . . . I'd go with the gigabyte.

I'd go with the UD5 for all the reasons already mentioned and I'm now a big fan of the little debug LED's.

Overclocking? Consider the DFI UT X58 T3eH8 and the DFI DK X58 T3eH6. The latter here is one of the better priced X58 boards, or at least it's supposed to be.

I've got the Gigabyte GA-EX58 Extreme and that's a great board with a shedload of options, but the BIOS, although improved is slightly flakey still in comparison to the likes of the DFI.

The P6T Deluxe OC Palm is another great rock solid board with lots of nice features but it left me a little bit erm..."meh", not a great deal of sparkle, performs ok, nothing incredible, although you might like the built in Linux o/s thingymagig?

So far, I've used four X58 boards and as far as stability, reliability, ease of use go, the DFI UT is by far the best. The DK version is a slightly cut down version of the UT with hybrid PWM as opposed to the Volterra digital PWM found on the UT.

BIOS on the DFI boards is excellent and easy to use, all the Auto settings work if that's your bag.

a friend of mine has the p6t and its a great board by all accounts. its a great clocker!

Why compromise when spending that type of cash on a board? After the OP's experience, he may well be better off taking a refund and grabbing his board from somewhere with a better range of available stock?

Gigabyte EX58-UD5 for £220 from Eclipse or Dabs Computers.
I am happy with mine and it has more features that you might actually use that the other 2 you suggest
