What PDA?

I'm looking at getting a PDA but I don't really know what one to go for, I like the Ipaq and used an older model a couple of years ago which was pretty cool. They don't seem to have a lot of storage ability though, I know I can get smart media cards but I'd really like to add an IBM microdrive (Compact Flash) but again I'm not sure what PDA supports them. Wanna be able to play MP3s and games, and avi/mpegs too if possible.

Any ideas on where to start lads?

i don't know much about pda's but i'm pretty sure you can get a little slot in add on that allows you to use a microdrive with an ipaq.

Seems to have a lot of bang for your bucks. but need to do some more research into it.

Go read the dell forums, i was looking into getting one but it seems that the AXIM is plagued with bugs, check the forums for yourself.

the new ipaqs are the best PDS's out there - if you can afford them

I have an IPAQ 3950 which is damn cool, better than the dell axims etc, and obviously better than one of those ****e palm OS devices

I would reccomend gettin the best IPAQ you can afford, preferably running Pocket PC 2003 (the cheapest that can run it is the one i have, IPAQ 3950, it comes with 2002 but you can upgrade to 2003 for free

Got an Axim X5 and have had no problems with it.

Its got a compactflash slot so it can take IBM microdrives and stuff.

Its great, and cheap as chips.

And the dell forums are for making complaints. Thats all anyone ever does on the dell forums. I wouldnt base your choice on that fact, at least dell are brave enough to let peeps air theyre problems for all to see.....

The main thing I want to do with a PDA is plug it into a GPS. Only prob is Im not sure how it would handle the maps.

damn, i had to register again just to post a reply. probably because i haven't been back for a while.

the best pda to get right now is the IPAQ 2210. Also sold as 2215, no difference, just marketing.

goto brightgand.com and checkout the 2210 forums. there's a big thread on what gps mapping software works with it etc.

the 2210 supports 2 types of slots, SD and CF. most people will use the SD for installing application and storing documents and the CF for extra memory or peripherals.

because CF has been around for longer there are a more and cheaper peripherals available for it than SD. You can add in a wifi card, camera, GPS receiver, ethernet adapter, GSM phone etc etc

the 2210 also has bluetooth built in, so if u have a bluetooth adapter on you pc (£30) you can be surfing wirelessly in you home straight away.

windows mobile 2003 is the OS which makes it easy to setup all your connections.

the 2210 runs on the 400Mhz xscale processor and benchmarks show its the fastest pda around right now by a big margin.

originally i was thinking of buying a laptop. luckily i didnt because the pda is more portable and can do everything anything the laptop could. I use mine for music, videos, photo album, games, web surfing, streaming music wirelessly and a little PIM.
