Asus Commando i965 what do you think?

This new board looks like it is going to be for sale very soon
    http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/Produ...oductID=526999
Apparently it has terrible vdroop issues ?
But what do you think of it?
Is it worth the £20 more than a dq6?
It looks to have some nice features .

Nice layout of board and the Asus vdroop issues are prevalent on all their i975/i965 boards yet don't stop ppl overclocking them like crazy

bit steep for a 965 board 975 or even 680 boards and that much more expensive

Looking at the specs, what has this one got that the P5b hasnt? is it just a slight layout change and different sata connections or what?

It does seem very expensive, for what it is. It is a ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP but more cooling one more pci slot and of course 'The Republic of Gamers' series . Also I think it can run crossfire and sli at two x8, which imo is stupid anyway. Well it looks nice!

whats the difference between 965 and 975 anyway? im assuming 975 are the better boards, because they seem somewhat more expensive, not bothered about sli.

975 seems a bit pokier when CPU speeds are the same. It has more PCI-E channels to play with and has more memory dividers.

965 seems to reach higher FSBs.

    Both are good solutions.

I think it looks wonderful - I have been waiting and deciding on my next build for some time, I have everything (either delivered or on order) except the motherboard anf graphics card, and was waiting for 680i... but that simply does not seem to be worth the money, and there seem to be too may issues also. So I decided to settle on an ASUS P5b Deluxe, but am also tempted by the ASUS P5W64 WS Professional which is superbly built, and then I see the ASUS Commando and the abit AB9 QuadGT, which both appear to be rev 2 965 boards and should be really good.

I would order either TODAY if anyone had one! I see SCAN hav it on Pre-order - I might just do that and be done with!

Lots of ASUS boards have VDroop issues....... just have to live with it.....

Testing Thread here with some nice pics Xtremesystems - Commando Results by Tony and AndreLast posts show belgium wbsite expecting stock in around 3 days. Usual Asus Vdroop confirmed
    Post#145
I just set 1.8V for vcore on my board here and measured 1.56V real on the board...droop is a little mild for the lack of accuracy here and I will be looking for a fix when I speak to the guys in Taiwan.

they could do away with the options over 1.6vcore for me if 1.6V actually gave 1.6V
There are a lot more voltage options though the strap option isn't present in current bios. More user features power/reset cmos buttons on board led boot diagnostics.
8 phase EL-Capless power design same as the striker.

May go for this if the abit quadgt isn't around when i 'm buying parts.

    luck

Well I took the plunge today & followed EtheAv8r, ordered from scan. Don't believe the new abit boards will be out until the end of the month, which is much 2 long for a fool & his money restraint was also weakened when the memory i ordered arrived CellShock DDR2 1000 (PC8000) 4-4-4-12 2.2v

Only downside is i'll have to wait till 15th till i get my cpu. (6600) Am also tempted 2 get 2 of these 80 Gb HGST (IBM/Hitachi) 0A30356 Deskstar 7K80, SATA300, 7200 rpm, 8MB Cache, 8.8 ms, NCQ as i'm below budget in my mobo spend. That will give me 4 of these drives to play raid with. should give me some devent benches alround.
