    Memory problems.

    Hi there,

I just installed 4*1gb sticks of your PC6400 55512 RAM in my Gigabye DS3. Now it errored on memtest. I got 1 error on test 7. It got through that pass with no more errors. Then on the second pass I got more errors - around 10. I then reset my bios to default and tried again. Instead of getting errors at test 7 - they appeared earlier. I have now taken out 1 pair and am testing the other.

    I've tested 1 pair for 1.5 passes = fine

Tested second pair for 1.5 passes = fine

I then realised that I'm using memtest 86+ 1.55, which is a really older version. Could this be causing the problem?

There is a newer version of Memtest: www.memtest.org

I don't think your memory is the issue if you are passing, regardless of the Memtest version. What is your Vdimm? You need to manually set the over voltage for memory to +.3v.

    Well I have done this:

    I installed all 4gb - I received 1 error in memtest test 7. I rebooted - set timings to 55512 and vdimm to 1.9.

Rebooted - error on test 7, no more errors that pass then I got more errors on different tests in pass 2.

I then took 1 pair out. I ran memtest for 1.5passes all ok

    Removed pair

Put next pair in same slot as previous pair, did same.

    Next:

I put all 4 in and used memtest 1.7 - it did 1 whole pass (1 hours worth) fine. I then put my boot into windows XP and it tells me something about XP profile has corrupt and my " my documents " aren't there (they are in "my documents and settings" although still accessible).

I run 3dsmax to render something and get an error report, then a crash (windows locks)

I take 1 pair out, same thing (but no lockup) - now I've put geil back in and it seems ok up to now (done 1 render, doing another).

I had ram set at +.1 (so 1.9). At first it was set to +.2v

I think you have 3 perfectly working sets of memory and a MOBO that, for some reason, is not capable of running 4 DIMMs. Have you tried overvolt of +.3v? Do you have the latest bios installed.

Also, keep in mind that I monitor 20+ other forums and that there is a 5+ hour time differential.

Yeah I didn't mean it in a bad way dude. I have put it up to +.3v atm and whilst I was in 3dsmax I hadn't had a crash. I did get a cyclic redundancy error somewhere though, may not be to do with RAM though.

    Damn this DS3 board.

The DS3 is great with 2 DIMMs but I have never tested 1 with 4. And, no worries here, I just wanted to let you know why if I had a slow response time. Hexus is a great forum and we don't like to ignore you guys.

Cheers for your help mate, but I've sent the RAM back for a refund. I think it must be the board.

    Oh well, damnit.

    Zak33's system
Lots of mobo's dislike the 4th stick

I bet it would have worked with 4x512's in it...not that you'd want too...but I think 4gig was more than the mobo could address.
