    XMS2 2x1gb 6400 DDR2 Problem

    Hi guys,

I know alot of people on here are experienced with corsair memory and I have been using this system for the past 12 months:

    AMD X2 4400+ AM2 (2x1mb cache @2.8ghz)~2x512mb Corsair XMS2 6400 DDR2 RAM CL4~Ati Radeon X1900XT 512mb~2x19" Widescreen 8ms~ASUS M2N-E~Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2 ZS pro~ Altec 5.1 Surround.

Aware of the up and coming games this summer i ordered XMS2 2x1gb 6400 DDR2 CL5 from here

On installing the memory, i moved my current memory to the black slots, and installed the 2 new memory sticks into the yellow slots. With the power disconnected. I then booted up my system, and when it came to the windows XP load screen it rebooted after 5 seconds. This happened every time, even if i only put my old memory in. I tested the new memory in another system and it would not boot either. In fact, when I put the memory in on its own, only the fans startup. Nothing appears on screen.

I'm quite surprised that I have recieved faulty corsair memory, and upset that I have had to reinstall XP after it became corrupted.

Before I send the product back, I'd just like to ask anyone if they have had similar issues or if they are known compatibility issues with my system.

    Thanks

    Rik

Try clearing your CMOS and booting with only 1 stick of the new memory. Also, do you have the latest bios?

I didn't do this initially, but i did once the problem had already happened.

I am about to request a replacement rather than a refund. I take it that this memory is compatible with the Asus M2N-E motherboard? For those corsair experts especially I'd like to know. The corsair compatibility website is down.

Some of the M2 series boards default to a VERY low Vdimm. You may need to try this.

    Clear CMOS
Install 1 512mb DIMM and reboot to bios
Set Vdimm to 2.1v, save settings and power off.
Remove the 512mb DIMM and install a single 1024mb DIMM.
    Reboot and test for stability.

Also, our home page has been redone so see if this link works for the configurator.

if you're referring to the voltage setting in the BIOS. The M2N-E only supports 1.95V, hence the reason I went for the CL5 timing as it runs at 1.9v, rather than 2.1 of the CL4.

Try the 1.95v as the bios reported voltage may not be exact.
