Unhappy XMS2 Timings problem Asus P5KC

Hi all. Would welcome some help with some new kit.

Put MB ( Asus P5KC ), CPU ( Q6600 ) and Memory together last Thursday but I cant seem to get the memory to run at it's advertised 800mhz and 4 4 4 12 timings no matter what I do.

I've checked the memory and it's OK so thats not the problem.

The default timings are 5 5 5 18 with all MB settings on auto.

When I set the speed manually to 800mhz the timings to 4 4 4 12 and the voltage to 2.1 with all other settings at auto the system starts to post but just hangs on the post screen and does nothing.

    Am I missing something ?

    Cheers

Have you flashed the latest bios for your MOBO?

Question Re: XMS2 Timings problem Asus P5KC

I've just put together a new system myself and was just starting to fiddle with the BIOS settings with a view to having my first stab at overclocking this weekend.

I have the same problem on my P5QE, searching for a solution now

Is it because you need to set the FSB ratio to 1:1 first ???

Try leaving the timings at 5,5,5,15 for now and increase the voltage to 2.1v. Then, try changing only 1 timing and booting to Memtest ( www.memtest.org ) for 1 full pass. It may be a chipset issue with a single timing. So far the P5KC MOBOs are not OCing well but, you'd think this system would run DDR2-800 at 4,4,4,12. If it won't you may want to RMA.

As Yellowbeard says. My problem was a faulty MB. I put the memory into my new P5QD, upped the memory to 2.1v, set the speed to 800 and timings to 4,4,4,12 and off it went without any hastle at all.

Re: XMS2 Timings problem Asus P5KC

Just thought I would try the original BIOS and it worked first time 4-4-4-12 at 2.1v, obviously there is a problem with the latest BIOS.

Any other settings I should change?
(I noticed on the EPP for my memory the tRC should be 22, but closest I can see in the BIOS is 20, so leave it on AUTO?)

    How safe is 'MemSet' ?
Can I just select the EPP and save it on there to the BIOS?
    Is this more dangerous?
Could I end up with a problem where I can't get into Windows?

If your system is stable, I would leave the memory timings as they are. tRC is fine at 20 as long as it is stable. EPP will not work with Intel chipsets so you don't have that option.
