    A superb day

As much as photos tell the story of the planes, the story of how great a day at Duxford has to be shared with each person's recollections of events. For me it was a stunning day, so much going on in my life at moment, this was the first day in so long that i've had chance to sit back and relax.

It was great to meet some of you that i've not met before, Skii, Hat, PE_Kras(sp?), Auran. And of course a pleasure to see Zak, Rias, Deckard and the family, Honoop, Dak, Tumble.

Seeing the planes up close in the hangars or flying or taxing past was superb. Some great moments to sum up where the tornado flying past with afterburn on with 4yr old little Deckard on my shoulders. Until i realised that i could stand the noice and little deckard wasn't happy. Sorry for that

The tornado punching from ground level through the clouds with a full vertical climb was awesome, seeing and hearing the spitfires for me was ace too. The Yak Display team was awesome too, not to mention Sally B (B17) and as you can see most of the Marlins had a desire to get inside there, I want to find a spitfire that i can sit in sadly

But then there are the human moments that were ace too, HOPEFULLY you will have to trust me on this but the picture of the ICE cream eating was so unfair. I had just run about 1.5miles down the other end of Duxford to get Hat into the place with the ticket I had picked up from Moby and then walked back fast to watch the action. Hey a spitfire and the Sally B was in the air .I was knackered and it was damn hot out, Ice Cream took about 20minutes to get in the cue and it needed to be eaten quickly before it melted thats my excuse and i'm sticking to it

Little Deckard chasing after me towards the end of the show like a damn bf109, couldn't shake her heh, i swear she runs on nuclear power plant because she doesn't stop. I think everyone else was highly amused by this

Honoop was definitely hilarious when described as Ronald mc donald and in the evening I believe i was so chilled out people swear I was about to fall asleep

Thanks to Deckard family for the food, your hospitality as always is second to none.

    It was an awesome day!

It was good to be in a great big crowd of us, espesh when the Tornado punched the clouds on the vertical climb... I'm standing there cheering and whooping like an American at a superbowl, look around and see we're all doing the same.

Top moments for me have to be the Yak display team, the glider display team... the first pass from the Tornado after the two minutes silence (what an awesome way to kick things off!), and the two minutes silence itself (very moving).

Funniest bits have to be my youngest damn near wetting herself with shock when the Tornado blew by at silly speeds on full re-heat, then piling down off of TiG faster than a chimp..

telling everyone to say "hi" to Hat when he was on the phone all of us shouting "HI HAT!" and then looking round to see the rest of Duxford looking at us like we're all nutters...

Passing round tissues to all the prop-fanatics to clean themselves up after the Tornado had finished...

Being REALLY sad and reviewing the photos I had transfered to the laptop... but holding the picnic blanket over our heads so we could see the screen...

The Tornado was the showstopper for me, a sombre 2 minute silence preceded and as everyone looked up to see a spec in the distance growing visibly larger and larger, then we saw that giant vertical tail fin and the calm before the storm..

Well, I don't think there is an adjective to describe the noise and power of an IDS Tornado on full reheat travelling around 100ft past the crowd and then punching the vertical. Needless to say the tots weren't too amused, but the more senior Marlins were dancing like nutters as this beasty looped over the top and came hurtling down inverted for another pass - amazing.
Then that glorious P-47 as she chugged past only a few yards away after landing - took my breath away.

In all honesty I'd need pages to describe my experience yesterday - needless to say here's one very happy plane-junkie here.

Great to meet you all, some new faces, some familiar, I reckon out of the thousands there youu'd have done well to find a happier and friendlier bunch.

    S! All

nicer days are hard to find....surrounded by friends and family and meeting the CO at last....

Dakky trying to keep his wallet in his pocket....his lass Megan sorting him out and keeping him in check.

TiG with ice cream round his gob and Little Deck on his 6 all day

Ace to meet PE_Kras....and so many Malins in one place. Skii's a wealth of knowledge, me and Rias intro'd Auran to IL2 the night before and he was chilled and enjoying planes...

    happy days

Tumble, Lynni and her Dad coming from other end of the country....

    Cheers MA_

we really are the top Squad

It was an ACE day. Really good to see people again, and meet some new ones
Excellent atmosphere, and everyone was very chilled out and smiley!
It was a good show anyway, but made all the better by being with a group of such friendly people

Zak will post my pics soon, and hopefully the movie clips (with us all cheering in the background! )

I've had a lot of sobering thoughts in my time.... It was them that started me drinking.

I was there yesterday too and it was indeed a great day out. I was thoroughly moved by the 2 minutes silence and then scared out of my skin by the Tornado, it was amazing. I also loved seeing the spitfires and the P47 was ace too what a noise it made. I went along with my wife and another couple we know. My mate let me know that he was a bit of a plane fan too by telling me everything and spilling the beans that he can actually fly , he learnt in a Tiger Moth.
We also all went up in the Dragon Rapide passenger plane from the 40's and that was just soo cool, felt like Indiana Jones.
It was a shame that I did not meet any of you but I have no idea what you all loook like.
