    Re: * Star Citizen *

I haven't put a lot of time into it. Life's been very grindy lately. It's definitely improving, but very much still has that alpha feel. They doubled the top speeds and tweaked the IFCS a fair bit which has made it more fun and frantic. Although one of the tweaks screwed my combat style(much harder to get AOA by tail sliding without changing mode, which I'm still not comfortable with), I think it's better over all, but still a long way from done.

Key's are re-mappable now, which was badly needed and other control systems are getting better apparently. I'm gonna find some time this week to try out a 360 pad. KB+M isn't for me in the long term and I really don't fancy the cost of a HOTAS set up. So fingers crossed.

New trailer from CitizenCon. Looking gorgeous in 4k.

They need to stop making "promo" videos now and just crack on with the game. I'm already exploring systems in Eilte and having a great time. Although the graphical fidelity is going to be great, I'm more and more concerned they're losing themselves in features and realism, and at the end millions will have been spent on a highly accomplished game that's not very fun to play. I hope I'm wrong, but this rediculous trailer, which is in no way representative of actual gameplay, just adds to my concerns.

    Planetside footage:

CR is sounding more and more like a South Park character each video.

The planetside stuff is going to be the bane of SC in my opinon - way too much faff for doing things you'd like in a spaceship game- they could learn from X.

They employ something like 300 people I don't think a 3 minute trailer every month or so is going to affect the dev cycle and most artists can't code. All other videos are paid for by people who want to watch them separately from development.

Making the game fun is by far the easiest task IMO. Building realistic galaxy/economy vs making the flight model fun and engaging for dogfighting/adding entertaining non-combat gameplay.

Then again; I don't think this game is that ambitious from a technical standpoint, despite the hype; it's an MMOFPS with high fidelity vehicle combat(well within CryEngine's abilities before they even started), instancing, smooth level transitions and very pretty graphics. Oh and a single player campaign. The only unusual thing is that it's a spaceship MMO. In technical terms I haven't seen anything that really seems like a big deal, just a matter of applying man hours and budget.

I'm not going to defend X, not least because I paid actual money for that toss, but walking and flying in the same engine is hardly unprecedented and has been done well before. X's problem was that they had no on foot gameplay(among a hundred others). It was the worlds most over engineered menu system. Would you be complaining if X had Crysis levels of FPS gameplay? I think it would add to the game.

X's problem was execution not concept.

This does look more and more interesting but I suck at flying aircraft and spaceships,so probably one I will need to avoid.

BTW,TressFX is used to animate the hair in the trailer - look at it in 4K.

Good to hear. I only played the Dfm in my Aurora. But I remember it feeling slow as hell in that. I think it needed to be faster to make it feel more skilled, seeing as you often feel a bit like a turret. Should make manoeuvres more interesting! And remappable keys, finally! CR likes to play with a 360 controller. So don't worry about that! I'm partially ignoring this game as I can't play it right now. But it's good to have a little peak in sometimes and see the progress. I love the art style in this game. Can't wait to sample some more of the modules

It does not look good to be honest.

I don't know where problem lies. Is is tech that is not matured yet or maybe GPUs are not powerful enough to apply correct physics and enough amount of single hairs for it to look good and natural.

Whatever problem is - it does not look good or natural. Still a long way for this kind of tech.

    Re: * Star Citizen *

Well, after the latest update, I'm beginning to wonder what on Earth RSI are doing...
Every time they upgrade the DFM, simple combat seems to get harder and harder, while the flight model gets more and more like a jet fighter sim.

So I now have a crosshair with two or three faintly visible (depending on the background) diamond reticles, which separate so much that only one of my guns is ever on target... How useless.

Tried playing with both stick and KB&M, but it seems I'll have to crack out that F16 Fighter Weapons School manual that all the RSI Forumites were going on about, just so's I can fly some basic trips...!!

Jeez, and they wonder why we're all flocking to play Elite Dangerous instead?

I've not played it since the original alpha release so I'm going to have a bash this week at some point. I'm curious what they've changed about the flight mechanics.

I'm trying to not expose myself to it too much atm, I'll be much more interested as S42 comes out and in particular when the PU goes to Alpha. I'm not especially bothered by the DFM/AC as it's not where my ships will be flying 99% of the time.

Forgot to mention, anniversary ship sale kicks off this Friday, so the funding will spike up for the weekend, probably from well below $62m to approaching $64m.

Yay... another stretch goal, another ship model or exotic fish added to my hangar... forgive me if I fail to contain my enthusiasm.

    Nah.
At least, not that I've heard... and they're not 'intending' to make an offline mode of any kind, either.
They may incorporate a PvP slider, which they discussed at one point. It alters the likelihood of encountering other players (from 10% to 90%) in addition to NPCs, so those who are more PvE-oriented can enjoy the game mostly without worrying about ganking and so on. That's about the closest you'd get to full-on singleplayer.

I'm not actually sure. But you probably can for Squadron 42. I do know, however, that you can play SC on non official servers so that you may use mods. I don't know if you could make your own computer your game server, thus eliminating all other real world players from the game. But you'll probably want to be connected to the servers for this game. The world will probably be updating often. Just set the slider towards PVE rather than PVP. That way you should have minimal player interaction. That's probably how I'll play it Well, at least until I start to get good at the game!

That's quite good if we could do that. I just googled s42 and if its a sp campaign then it should be offline and not need to connect to servers, right?

Is anyone else annoyed that they've made of 62 mil and are still pushing to sell uber expensive ships?

It is the single player campaign - your introduction to the universe. But I think you might be able to play it co-op as well, if you like

I haven't really paid much attention to the ship sales. I know there is some really expensive stuff going. But I think that the game is becoming more and more ambitious, and so the extra funding will be necessary. But either way, I put my money in a while back with my Aurora LN package, and I aim to gain everything else just by playing the game. Though I will probably chuck a little more money at it at various points throughout its lifespan!
