    Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous

I need to watch some tutorial videos because I tried to dock last night and had no idea where I was supposed to go, ended up bouncing around in some corridor until I blew up.

So did you all back through the kickstarter of have any of you shelled out £50 to get into the beta on a pre-order? Nice to start getting some early feedback on the game: I'm still not sure if I'll get a copy (I spend so little time playing any games any more I'm not sure it'll be worth buying) but it's on my list to consider...

Backed the KS at premium beta level. I keep playing a little and then forcing myself to wait until the game is released properly to stop me spoiling it for myself.

That said - I've another day and a half off work, so I might throw a few more hours at it...

Yeah, I initially pledged £35 on the kickstart and the added a further £15 to get into the Standard Beta, I felt £100 was too much for the Premium Beta as I knew everything would get reset when the Standard Beta started as indeed it will when the Standard Beta ends, but I think £50 for the full game and Beta access is acceptable while personally double that for the Premium Beta was too much, IMHO.

ED at £50... to pay more to be a beta-tester grates a bit but i just had to get it. It looks looks/sounds 'right'. Other space sims feel very cold and clinical to me in comparison. The aesthetics of Elite I just get. Just hope I gel with the flight model.

Downloaded standard beta last last night. With my luck the final game will be released in a week and I'll be kicking myself.... Flightstick from CCL not here yet so i'm holding off playing at all so i don't have to unlearn stuff. So not done any more than twiddle through the menus setting graphics options and stuff.

Don't have much time either but my shoulder is a bit knackered so I've been looking for something less RSI inducing than FPS mouse gaming. So -hopefully- this is something I can do that literally isn't painful while I heal up post-op. Not held a joystick literally since original Atari back in the 70s so no idea how I'll get on.

I've been waiting 20 years for this game and now its come out I fear that I don't have the time too dedicate to it like I did the original in my early teens :-(

I think there are a number of us in the same situation with regards spare time: that's certainly something that is spoken of a lot on the ED forums, but I'm hopeful that I'll be able to play at my own pace (I'll likely be playing solo or in small groups with friends rather than the larger "all" group, which should see me right).

    Alas, no.
    I have bought a t-shirt and a keyring, though!!

I missed out on the KS and only just got an early-ish pledge in for Star Citizen.
Having followed the SC development and been less than impressed, I really wish I'd managed the ED one.

I am still checking in, mainly through having quick plays on a friend's Alpha and it looks stunning!!!
But having also seen the mess than an Alpha game seems to be, I prefer to wait until final, finished, full release before really getting properly into ED.

I have to say that watching that docking video I started getting goosebumps - it's exactly how I wanted Elite's docking procedure to be when I was playing it on the BBC B in the late 80s. I guess this might be the game that gets me back into having a gaming desktop again - but tbh I've been saying that about various games for the last 6 years and nothing has managed it yet...

    Re: Flightstick for Elite Dangerous

The game is pretty damn fantastic, especially compared to a lot of the crap we've had recently.
I haven't enjoyed a space game since Freelancer and even at Alpha stage, Elite Dangerous is right up there at the top.
All Star Citizen needs to be an awesome game is to be half as good as this!!

Right - to save this going off on a tangent about the game itself, I'll start up a new thread

I believe that this thread has established the need for an Elite Dangerous thread so good plan that man.
