    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Right, a wanted status is relevant to a system, not the current location. So for example I could be wanted in Federation space, but you encounter me in an Independent world. In which case, if you open fire on me first you are attacking me without reason and are then subject to a fine/bounty yourself. For you to legally attack me I would need to be in Federation space, or I fire on you first. Threatening words or deploying hard points does not constitute an attack. You must be fired upon and hit to be able to retaliate with lethal force - the ship will go red on the radar when this happens.

One thing to note; when you lock up a ship and it shows a status as being Wanted, it is not telling you where they are wanted. For this you need a Kill Warrant Scanner. This little device allows you to scan the ship (subject to you keeping within 1km whilst the scan is carried out) and then it shows extra data in the left hand holoscreen. It will tell you the total bounty for their destruction and then show you if they're wanted in the current system.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Oh, and in other news the Dev's asked today if they're able to do a complete wipe of everyones account. So despite saying they wouldn't do a wipe, it's looking very likely that they will. Our starting position is also going to be changed, external trading tools will no longer work so you'll have to work out trading routes yourself. They're looking at how people progress - so I imagine gold won't be seeded in the anarchy regions either half as much as it was.

I'm a bit gutted really, was enjoying playing as a bounty hunter in my Viper. Back to the Sidewinder!

Just dug out my old X45 in preparation for plying this, have per-ordered so really forward to it. I still remember queuing up for a copy of Elite Frontier at one of the Amiga shows, think it was on release day.

It's available - note you'll need to download a new launcher from the main site, log in and then under My Downloadable Products get the latest version. It'll then allow you to update.

Nice, I've downloaded and installed it and had a quick glimpse through the menus. I'm looking forward to trying the tutorials. Thanks for the heads up.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I had a quick 20 minutes on it earlier. Initial impressions are rather mixed - overall I'm happy but there are rather a lot of showstopper bugs so your mileage may vary. I appear to only have one minor bug, the skybox is replaced with the galaxy map, including the 'you are here' marker. Hopefully that will be a quick and easy fix.

So, the look has changed. More bloom and blur, holo displays flicker a little. Might not be to everyones taste, but I like the look.

The outpost where you start is amazing, I got lucky and launched when the star was lighting up the planet and just looked well.. wow!

Seeing other ships in super cruise is great, and you will often see a 'motorway' of traffic heading toward a station, far more immersive.

Weapon and ship prices have gone through the roof. Oddly a Viper is still only 90k though.

Looking forward to spending some time playing tonight.

So the same applies to being pirated - I have to take a hit first before I can kill them?
Given how some Cobras seem capable of dropping a Sidey in seconds, that's not very reassuring...!!

Is that just hazards of being a bounty hunter?

Yeah, it's not ideal that you have to take a hit first - especially given that one shot can potentially kill. But, given that we don't have a judge or jury it's the only way to be sure. Trick is don't get engaged haha!

Yes, if you engage them in a 'safe' system then you'll pick up a bounty as well. Best to do it in Anarchy regions so there's nothing to worry about then apart from possibly being attacked yourself. But, at least you can fire the first shot without punitive action

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

    v2.01 just went live:

Thanks again for your feedback and patience with Beta 2.00.

Beta 2.01 is available now and the change log is as follows:

    - Ensure in-system map is properly cleaned up if interrupted
    - Fix incorrect commander ID sent to the server when scanning celestial bodies
    - Fixed div by zero in time to destination
    - Reduce server's MTU, and turn on detailed network logging
    - Do not deadlock if we hit “Fail to add resend” error
    - Make faction sides in war zones the correct way round
    - When spawning ambient traffic around a station and choosing a random minor faction, don't choose a faction in a war state, unless it's the faction that is the controlling minor faction. Should stop there being so much fighting around stations
    - Mission util flag and text fixes
    - Repair all button isn't selectable fixed
    - Increased the possible string length for titles in the missions panel pop up (in cockpit)
    - Range-check input binding values when asked to display as text
    - Fixed lighting transition in supercruise
    - Fixed galaxy background capture
    - Handle missing text symbols for input bindings
    - Remove the 'security system' data from the galaxy map, until we're pulling the correct data
    - System set up tweaks for Dahan and Rakapila

Please keep in mind that there are still changes to come, and the team are still hard at work.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Checking the various guides, they all seem to imply differently:

"If you see a wanted status, it means that the target has
committed crimes in the current jurisdiction and is fair game
    (outside of a no-fire zone).
If you successfully use a K-Warrant scanner, you can learn
about additional bounties from other jurisdictions, which
you can cash in should you make the kill.
However, this does not affect your legal attack rights and
requirements. The target must be wanted in the jurisdiction
you attack in otherwise you will also be committing a crime
(though it won't stop you cashing in the bounties...)"

So I can kill if the thingy says WANTED and cash in on that, but I get any other bounties if I K-Warrant them first...

Not found anything further on how to fight back when attacked...

I think the above is how it should work. Whether it does in practice is a different matter, your experience suggests otherwise. I've only ever hunted with a KWS so can't comment beyond that tbh.
