There's defo something going wrong with the back end. I managed to get 30 mins of uninterrupted play yesterday just before 10pm and it was great. It took me since 7pm to get that though... Fingers crossed they sort it today.

I had a quick play last night. Docked at the outpost, but the game hung mid-menu and had issues restarting. I was waiting for the program to finish, got caught up watching a movie and ended up having to call it a night at 2:30am.
Will have another bash later tonight, hopefully.
Not fully sold on the new UIs, but overall looking quite cool and I like the Alien 1979 CRT style of flickering between UI tabs!!
Tutorials are a bit weird - Most were easy peasy, but I suddenly found myself really struggling with the Lakon 9 one, whereas I'd always been able to blow it to pieces in no time.
From what I've read it sounds like this update would be a good time to get into the game since release is still quite a way off.
I can't find much talk about people running it on dual cores though. The specs say a Q6600 or similar, normally my i3-4130 would cope well in such scenarios, but I don't know if the game really needs a true quad. Has anyone played it on a hyper-threaded dual?
My overall impressions of the game are that it's not a system hog. I'm able to run at 2560 x 1440 on Very High detail @ 50-60 fps typical using a 7970 / 280X....a card that can be picked up for around £150 now. Yes I've got a quad core, but the game doesn't seen CPU intensive so a 3.5Ghz dual core I suspect would be fine.

I'd agree - it's not to say you wouldn't benefit from the extra cores obviously but at this point in time it seems a little more GPU loaded than CPU. That might change in the future - for example with the latest release I've noticed a very minor FPS drop with the addition of extra smoke and effects on the displays/HUD etc. But it's still playable for me at 1080p on a Q6700/660Ti.
We're up to v2.03 now, I'm able to connect as normal now, but then compared to others i didn't have that big a problem before either. Something to do with the default MTU size or something, if your connection couldn't cope with 1500 it pretty much wouldn't let you in.
So I'm enjoying it so far. There's a lot more to take in whilst looking around a single system now. Bounty hunting appears to be significantly more profitable even without a KWS, but war zone fighting isn't worth the time unless you have something more potent than the standard ship. Oh and a little hint, if you see an Elite rated Anaconda and you're in a standard Sidewinder, don't fancy your chances. I barely escaped with 7% hull.

Managed to take down a cobra mk3 in a standard sidewinder for 1200 credits...then the game crashed, doh. The graphical overhaul is lovely compared to beta 1....when you first start at the orbital platform in low orbit of the planet is quite a jaw dropping moment (you couldn't get that close to planets in beta 1), also the shift in shadows as you strife the sun in super cruise mode always makes me smile.
Decided to take the plunge and upgrade to the beta. Slightly odd that the shop lets you choose your currency cause I switched it to dollars cause it worked out cheaper Installing now so will give it a bash. Was trying to hold out till it was released but couldn't help it in the end.
Tried to do a short Docking Tips vid for a friend and fellow player last night, but kept losing server connection every 5 minutes.
Also, must must MUST remember to turn off that bloody pre-flight checklist!!
It is a cool idea for immersion, I suppose, but what's being checked is just annoying at the minute... but at least you can turn it off!
At the minute, it works like this:
£35 - You buy the pre-order version of the game.
£15 - You buy into the Beta.
So that's £50 in total.
However... I understand the release version will be about £40, so you're saving a fiver already.
Also, the pre-order version comes with a whole bunch of nice little extras (game soundtrack, art book and stuff) as well as a paint job and an Eagle available at startup rather than a Sidewinder.
This all becomes available to you upon release day.
I'd say it's worth it, for getting some combat practice in if nothing else!!
Elite v2.04 this afternoon!
I've been wanting to get this game for ages!
and after reading the info for the newest update I think I might have to.
Holding off until the final release probably. It's been a long wait from the good old BBC Micro days of Elite, but not too long now. Ah.... the memories.
