Excellent stuff, thanks, like Allen I knew about the second link but the first will come in handy as well.

I've just been online with MaddAussie, we were dogfighting around the Federal Distress signal at Eranin 2 till I got called away.

OK, think I'm about ready to give up...

Spent the past 2 hours trading and working my way up to about 14k, had a full hold and again crashed losing everything. This is getting ridiculous!

    Always keep enough for insurance!

With regards the paid missions - it's entirely possible they nerfed the money, it's always worth checking though, because if you get one going to LP-198? (the anarchy system) it will pay very well(usually a tonne of personal weapons)

Lowe i've never used this before but the video you've posted looks interesting. I've downloaded it and it seems to be tracking well with my cam, can you give me some advise on how to enable it with Elite Dangerous?

Edit 1: nevermind here's a youtube explaining the setup

Edit 2: Forget the video it's a good general guide to the program and setting it up, but it misses some steps on the setup for Elite, use this instead

Doesn't matter, insurance doesn't cover your cargo, and since I have no upgrades on the ship the free replacement is the same. But I have twice now, lost massive amounts in cargo when crashing. That kind of set back is pretty hard to ignore considering how long it takes to get there...

How are you crashing? If it's materialising from supercruise inside the station I can tell you how to avoid that 100% of the time, if it's flying into stuff then well, practice with no cargo
Assuming you know about the horizontal and vertical thrusters?

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

If you are playing solo and you can do it before your ship explodes, hit escape and then save and quit then go back into the game. It will usually put you back where you were but minus the threat that nearly killed you. Though I would suggest that this is not a suitable solution if you are playing online.

Broadly similar to the way I had it. I used virtual joystick, assigned a joystick butto to toggle free lock on and off, then assigned look up down left right to the virtual joystick axis. Found the setting that isn't accumulative worked best for me.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

As above, how are you crashing? The mail slot is pretty big tbh and if you've got the control setup right it's pretty damn hard to get it wrong. What are you using as a controller? Have you got virtual and horizontal thrusters assigned? They're critical really and make docking and other manoeuvres far easier.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

The first time was just stupidity, a newbie mistake. Getting used to the Xbox 360 controller and swapped from playing a game where the right trigger is the accelerator, tried using it in ED and shot the guns without realising whilst trying to dock. BOOM!

Second time, another player or NPC hit me as I was undocking (relatively fast) and I crashed into the wall on the inside of the station by the exit... BOOM! Didn't have a chance to avoid them, they came at me from underneath my cockpit view so couldn't even see them until they hit.

Third time was down to lag or a bug, I am sure. I took off from the landing pad, lined up perfectly with the exit, accelerated and somehow the ship turned. I couldn't turn it back, or slow it down... BOOM!

On ship number four now, doing a bit better. Slowing down whilst inside the dock is key I think, despite me being comfortable with the speed and controls now, I cannot rely on others not being stupid or the terrible lag not kicking in at the wrong time.

Not with the Xbox360 controller, there isn't enough buttons/sticks. The left pad is pitch and roll, the right is yaw and vertical thrusters. Horizontal thrusters would be a nice addition, but I don't really have anywhere to map them.

You can map different functions to controls for when the landing gear is deployed, docking on a landing pad without being able to drop straight down sounds like it would be impossible to me, if you're anything like me then I would change my landing mapping to disable my combat controls and swap them out with landing controls if I were having the issues that you've been having.

I went into the shipyard, looked over a few ships and despite not finding the colour I wanted and them only having it in left hand drive I still went out and got my Cobra Mk iii last night, now I need to build some funds to make sure I can cover insurance for a few deaths.

When using the trade calculators (posted above) I usually don't put in my total CR into the Credits field, I take out enough to cover insurance first and then put the remaining CR into the field, it means I can more accurately see exactly how much cargo I can carry.

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

I can go up and down, it's left and right I can't do. I could change the mapping, but am kinda used to it now, don't want to rock the boat and lose anything else now I am back up to 20k.

BTW, not sure if this is a bug, but I just accepted a mission taking something to Wyrd, it said in the mission screen that it was within my jump range. Upon taking it from Asellus Primus, I couldn't find Wyrd in the list of systems to jump to. So I checked ChangoDock.com, it seems I have to take 4 jumps. OK, I start out, jump to Dahan, to Morgor, then the next listed in BD+47 2112, but it's not available to jump to from Morgor... I check the galactic map, it's there, and supposedly in range, but I can't jump to it, I get the error: "Frameshift cancelled: jump exceeds drive fuel use limit of 0.80 tons?"

    Re: Elite : Dangerous

Nevermind, dumped my cargo and I was able to jump. Luckily, it was just radioactive waste, very cheap. Worth it though, this station (Vonarburg Co-Operative) is AMAZING!
