    Re: Cities: Skylines

On approach to DFW this morning, looking down at the city beneath me, I couldn't help thinking, just for a second, if I couldn't tweak the layout for better traffic flow.

    I hate you right now.

You look out your "office" window and must get some cracking views. I look out mines and see some poxy building site and railway line.

I played for a few hours last night and loved it but I kind of get myself in a total mess lol.

is the traffic overlay a mod or is there something I'm missing?

    Re: Cities: Skylines

You can use the tool bar on the right of the screen to add a number of overlays that give you various levels of info. Choosing the "Car" icon shows the traffic health, while the "bus" icon shows public transport routes.

    Re: Cities: Skylines

Cool Will have another look tonight

I started afresh last night on the islands map I like the fact that the starting motorway connection is central

Loving creating curved roads instead of the monotonous grids you had to do on sim city

    Re: Cities: Skylines

Played for about 2 hours last night and kept starting and restarting lol.

I've seen a few guides which talk about keeping the central motorway type thing going the whole length of the map so I keep starting by doing that and then try and keep the housing/commercial one side and then the industrial/Services the other. All works well until I forget about expansion for a bit and Build something where one of the roads should go

I finished last night with a city I'm pretty happy with, I've on islands, Industrial is to the right of the start grid(with the water on that side to) Keeping industrial in a grid with 1 way roads around the edge. LEft hand side involves a 1 way road along the bottom with big sweeping curves going back towards the main motorway. I've done it so there are only a couple of junctions onto the motorway so far.

It's far too addictive though I got to the point last night where the missus had asked me to do something an hour earlier and I'd said in a minute...

I got the game on steam last night and it is amazing. Really the first city builder since sim city 4 that is worth your time to play, let alone cash.

Yep, eventually there will always be something in the way of a road or upgrade lol. Eventually you'll end up pausing, demolishing an entire "district" and rebuild it with better roads and high density stuff.

    Re: Cities: Skylines

I have been playing this game none stop since Thursday night. I love the fact it doesn't utterly crucify you if you don't get things perfect and gives you plenty of space to grow.
This really is everything sim city should have been and much much more!

Apsolutely, the number of times I have levelled a huge are so that I can redo the road layout. Seems the best way to do roads is interconnecting round about with one way streets. I had a lot of success with the raised highway with round abouts underneath and double one way ring road system to connect them..... God, I cant believe i just wrote that... this game...

My thoughts are: This is what the new Sim City should have been.
