    Sony A6000

Sony NEX-6 replacement. They dropped the "NEX" brand and all new mirrorless APS-C are now called Ax000

    http://www.sonyalpharumors.com/live-...lly-announced/

    Looks pretty bad ass:

Sony claims the A6000 has the “world’s fastest autofocus” 0.06s
The A6000 hybrid AF covers 92% of the imaging area!
    24MP APS-C sensor
    Cheaper RRP than the NEX-6

nevermind autofocus, what is it's shutter delay? No use having lightspeed autofocus if it's negated by a 2minute shutter delay.

    Re: Sony A6000

Personally I own an old NEX F3 and although the camera discussed is the newest revision of one of the higher models, I would assume some of the issues are the same. Lens wise there choice is limited in comparison to the titans like Canon and often very overpriced. Typically if you know a few people into photography you are likely to find a few who would let you borrow a lens or try it out, I've yet to find anyone you can do this with with a E-mount lens for my NEX.

Just a few things to consider

as an EOS-M owner I can assure you that the canon lens range is rubbish! Sure you can mount full EF and EF-S lenses via the adaptor, but that kind of defeats the point. your choice of EF-M on the equivalent canon are:

    18-55 f/3.5-5.6 IS
    22 f2 pancake
    11-22 f/4-5.6
    50-200 f3.5-5.6 IS

That's it. Hardly a dramatic choice. If you want a fast lens you're stuck on the 22mm pancake.

What about 3rd party lenses? Well Tamron do 18mm-200mm f3.5-6.3 all-in-one superzoom with VC and barrell distortion at wide angle. It's reasonably sharp, but slow focussing and not very fast at anything over 100mm. (This Tamron is available on Sony NEX also...) Otherwise for Canon I've only come across manual lenses by Rokinon/Samyang which are nice, but fully manual, and don't all communicate with the body even to record settings with the exif data (the ones I've looked at anyway).

so canon is not nec the answer for mirrorless. Not yet anyway! Dear Santa, please can Canon produce an affordable EF-M 15-80mm zoom at f2 or f2.8 across the range for me this Christmas... Please!

Edit - epic thread resurrection btw!

I've been tempted by some of the E-mount Sigma lenses actually, will have to look into the Tamron ones! I think with my model being older it would just be nice to have some sort of an updated camera. Personally like the look of the 650D!

Saw a thread that put the rebrand simply and was always something I wanted to throw in my two sense as kind of feel they rebranded to a**** from nex to hide poor sales

just remember the scale ratios for APS-C vs full frame. The viewing angles on Canon multiply by 1.6x so a 50mm lens is actually 80mm equivalent. Hits you on the wide angles.

And on the EF-S lenses there isn't much that's fast as a one-stop shop zoom. Best is the Canon 17-55 f/2.8 EF-S but that is the best part of £600. Sigma do a similar version for about £350 but it's not as sharp and more vignetting. Equally though I've yet to get my hands on them and use them in anger so it may not be as bad as the pro reviews make out.
