Wow those are some nice shots. Bet you're pleased you went with the D80 now!

Out of interest, what settings did you use for the flower shots? Did you use one of the program modes e.g. aperture priority/macro, or did you go down to manual? Are the shots as taken, or tweaked in software e.g. Photoshop?

Still learning to take good pics with my GF's D70, but I like taking plant macro shots and need to get better at choosing the right settings for that kind of composition.

I am well chuffed with it its so satisfying !

For the flower shots i mucked around with the Macro mode and some of the Manual modes. I found that manual mode A which is apature priority mode (i think) worked best (if not better than macro mode) at close ups on flowers.
I have used photoshop to adjust the brightness/contrast a little on most of them apart from one

Edit: Actually it might of been the S mode "Shutter Priority" hope that helps?

very nice pics.....some lovely light in those shots, especially 1-3, 6 & 7 (the remaining two, for those counting, being relatively dark shots, and therefore hard to commend for their light, lovely or otherwise).

Perhaps play around with smaller apertures, pic 7 is a little tight, and hard to tell what the point of focus is. Lovely composition in 6. Is it full frame, or a crop?

Thanks for the tips. 6 (the tree) is a full frame picture but the one above it 5 is a crop just incase you meant that one!

    Cheers!

Yeah, I meant six....I figured 5 for a crop, unless you'd switched your D80 for a Lomo panoramic camera

My fav is No 6, though I would have desaturated the branch coming out on the right as well, as it's slightly distracting. (For someone 'just getting into photography' you're pretty good at Photoshop masks .) Nice control of local contrast.

Yeah i couldnt decide weather or not to desaturate it or not.

I have been using photoshop for years for web/graphic design and image enhancement, So i am very familiar with masks

    Next step HDR
