super wide angle lens
After wondering around London, specifically the new St Pancras station on Monday, I've decided I really want a super wide lens.
I've been using the Canon 17-85 IS for a while now and like it, but I want something wider, 10-20 or there abouts. Whats worth looking at and whats not worth the time? |

Re: super wide angle lens
Sigma 10-20mm f4.0-5.6 EX DC, Sigma 12-24mm f4.5-5.6 EX DG if you have more money & may go FF at some point, Tamron AF11-18MM F/4.5-5.6 Di-II & their forthcoming 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5
From what I read on the forums Canon wides don't seem to have a great reputation. |

Re: super wide angle lens
i'm not in a rush, might be worth holding out to see what the Tamron 10-24s like, that extra bit of speed could be useful.
As for FF, i ould love a 5D, but in all honesty I can'tsee me spending that kind of money. Unless Canon give us FF in lower models like the x0D. |

Re: super wide angle lens
£290 for the Sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 EX DC HSM is really alright, a good couple of hundred less than some of the others.
I think if I ever go full frame I will be able to justify another lens, perhaps even a 17+ which is roughly the equivelant width of this one. Thanks Buff ![]() |

Re: super wide angle lens
if you can it may be worth holding out to see how the new Tammy 10-24mm does.
They say that it's better than the 11-18mm & that performs broadly similar to the Sigma 10-20mm. |

Re: super wide angle lens
any idea when the new Tammy is expected?
Got any links for it at the moment? I'm not in a rush, but i've said tomyself that i wish I had a wider lens a lot now. Also tempted with a fisheye but that I'm really not sure of. |

Re: super wide angle lens
I don't trust eBay or PayPal, so I'd rather pay a little extra and buy it new to be honest.
But thanks for that Shiato ![]() |

Re: super wide angle lens
Thread reserection time, been looking into this again as I want one for going to Ibiza in September.
The Tokina 11-16 f2.8 sounds really good. (£449 http://www.kenrockwell.com/tokina/11-16mm.htm Although this guy still recomends the Canon 10-22 f/3.5 - 4.5 (£439) http://www.kenrockwell.com/canon/1022.htm Opinions? |

Re: super wide angle lens
If thats digitalrev they ship from Hong Kong so you risk import duty. If it does get caught the price of £290 + £35 shipping + charges comes in at around £390. Think theres a UK seller doing the canon fit for £400 on there, or the Nikon for £366 delivered. It is worth contacting digitalrev, sometimes they will offer to pay cover the duty charges, but you have to ask up front.

Also consider the Tokina AF 12-24mm f/4 AT-X Pro DX which is slower but more versatile. |
