24-70L vs 24-105L vs 17-55
Hi all,
Dilemma time. I'm looking to pick up a new lens by the end of the month for some wedding photography (and as a general main lens). I presently have a 70-200 F4 L lens and when I'm out and about will have 2 bodies, one for this lens and another for the new lens. I have 3 options in my mind. 1) 24 - 70 F2.8 L lens 2) 24 - 105 F4 IS L lens + 430 EX flash 3) 17 - 55 F2.8 IS USM + 430 EX flash Guess my thoughts are on whether the 17-55 non-L lens with it's lower quality would prove better with it's faster glass and flash over the benefits of probably better glass or better quality and flash. I have until the end of the month to make a decision, but any input or advice would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: 24-70L vs 24-105L vs 17-55
be carefull with the 17-55, they have a habit of breaking
24-70 (AKA the brick) is ok if you get a decent copy, you can buy a duff one that back focuses (yes Canon's QC isn't 1st class, even on L grade glass) (if your gonna buy this, get it now so you have time to get it fixed if its dodgy) wedding - stay clear of F4's you'll find youself in a dark dingy church cursing that you didn't pic up a 2.8.. and stretch that little extra for a 580EX have you looked at 3rd party glass? Tamrons 17-50mm is very nice thats just my 2p's worth |

Re: 24-70L vs 24-105L vs 17-55
Great advice, thanks Bobster.
17 - 55 is off the cards. So is the 24 - 105. Although you do have me worried about the back focus issue on the 2.8 now ... having a read around to see if it's a common problem. Will also take a look at the Tamron too. My ideal flash is the 580 II ... guess I just have to save those pennies (and thanks for starting me off with your 2 ![]() |
