Buying Adobe CS3
Hey,
I was wondering if anyone had any advice on buying the Adobe CS3 Design Premium. I've got a student license at the moment for it however i'll be working at a media agency this summer for an internship and would like CS3 on my Macbook Pro. Would buying from the USA legally work in license terms? Thanks |

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
why do you need the Premium? do you work with 3D models?
easiest way is to grab urself a legit copy of PS6/7 from ebay - plenty going about (that have never been used) register that copy and upgrade to CS3 ![]() |

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
Extended is the version for 3d work, premium is a package. While design premium does come with Photoshop extended, it also comes with Flash and Dreamweaver which design standard does not.

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
I imagine that the company he will be working for will already have a number of workstations with the cs3 suite on them, so I doubt theyll feel like shelling out for a copy forr his Laptop. No harm in asking though I suppose.

I never knew CS3 would cost so much, there's another forum post on hexus and dvdoctor with the hate for the pricing as we pay double what the yanks pay. Adobe are like drug dealers supplying students with cheap software! |

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
I know quite a few businesses have volume liscenses, so they might have a key you could use, if they have no spare workstations and you need to use your own personal laptop then i would think its definately up to them to provide you with the software needed to do your job...

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
It's not that bad a price for commercial software. There are packages of software for commercial use which are licensed at tens of thousands of pounds (like most of the engineering software I used at Uni)! The fact that they allow student access to it for a knock down rate is a good thing/sound commercial sense training young'n's to use only their software*.

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
I think you would have to buy the software in the UK without breaking the licence terms but I would email Adobe and ask them. I think Adobe are in a long line of companies who rip UK buyers off. The price difference between the US and UK is a joke and in my opinion just pushes people to pirate their software.

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
If you think adobes pricing is steep, have a look at the prices for something like Maya or any of the pro 3D packages, they can cost several grand for just one piece of software! Adobe is expensive, but when you think about it, a professional media agency should easily be able to afford the license costs, its really only the freelancers that get stung.

i did read in a recent pro mag that people have been popping on a jumbo jet to NY for the day, purchasing the software and coming back, and they still bought it cheaper than over here (even with the flight cost)..
so long to short of it, yes you can purchase over in the US and use it here ![]() |

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
How much is it in the US then? Might be going to NY for a few days in April, and am excitedly contemplating taking advantage of the £1 - $2 conversion... thinking might get myself a macro lens, 160GB iPod, some decent headphones... and maybe now this...
Not that I have a clue where I would buy anything retail in the US... DM |

Re: Buying Adobe CS3
CS3 is about $625 vs £595 (going by Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk)
You can't go wrong with visiting B&H Photo Video | Digital Cameras, Camcorders. Their store is amazing! so even if you don't buy anything it is worth a visit. It's in a big jewish comunity (i think it is Jewish owned as well) and there are loads or orthadox Jews going about in their traditional black robes etc. Something I've only ever seen in films before ![]() Also, you'd probably get everything on your list there too. |
