I'm going to abstain, they're both terrible tbh.....

I'd have entered if I could, but without a decent wide angle lens to do the topic justice, and no time to actually take a pic, I'm better off not even trying.

Was the decision to go 'HDR' reached by general consensus, or was it decided by Nick? If it's the latter, that might be some part of the reason it had less support that normal....

My opinion too, I'm afraid. I always thought people loved making hugley manipulated HDR images, although I don't like them myself. I don't think HDR was particularly suitable as a choice for a photo contest. Maybe it would've been suitable for a PP competition, but I suspect a straightforward category that doesn't require specific software (Photomatix or other HDR merging apps) or tripods would have encouraged and enabled more entries. Most HDR shots I see on the internet are pretty terrible anyway - completely overcooked and fake looking.

Hopefully the next competition will be a bit more accessible and not so specialised.

Yep. Neither of them look like, or need to be, HDR. The second one is the more promising, but needs just the big building against the sky, none of the gumpfh in the foreground

I like the colors in #2, not the best HDR I've seen, but not bad.
