Sigma 18-125mm F3.8-5.6 DC OS HSM

    Anyone used one?

As I'm oing to have to send my Canon 17-85 in for repair, and I don't want to be without a similar lens, I've started thinking about getting this as well.

    Any thoughts?

It'll be a general purpose walk about lens. I know I can get a 18-200 or 250 for less, but i like having IS and I figure 18-200 is too compromised because of the range.

Yeah, i like 18 on my current lens.

If it wasn't for the 1.6x crop, or if I already had a 10-20, i'd think about the 28-135, but the 17-85 is just about perfect on the wide end for my liking. In fact taking it up to 125 might be really handy.

Got an e-mail from Amazon today. They have the 28-135 on offer in their 'clearance sale' for 274 plus vat. (don't know how that compares with other outlets.)

    Bah!

Looks like the Sigma isn't readily available at the moment. Amazon are saying 1-4 weeks, Warehouse Express just say it's on back order.

I use a Sigma 18-200 OS lens and I'm very pleased with it. Here is a link to a picture taken with said lens:

Does the repair take long enough to justify a new lens ? I mean you'll have 2/3 of the focal length duplicated when the 17-85 come back. Btw the 18-200 Sigma NON-OS is selling for £130 @ Cameras2u

    Primary kit:
    Fuji S5 Pro - Nikkor AF 50/1.8 - Nikkor AF 85/1.8
    Epson RD-1

    Film Kit:
    Leica M3 - Summicron 50/2 DR - Zeiss ZM 25/2.8 - M-Rokkor 40/2

    Olympus OM2n - Zuiko 50/2 Macro - Zuiko 50/1.4 - Zuiko 35/2.8

The problem is it looks like I'm away on business for up to a ouple of months and want to take my 350D with me. I wouldn't be able to get my existing 17-85 back in time. (probably away end of this week or begining of next)

Ended up ordering a Sigma 18-200 OS for £279.

More than I was wanting to spend. But depending on how it works out, I might sell on the 17-85 Canon once I get it repaired.

    Thanks for the input guys.

Thank you. It was handheld with OS enabled so I can say that the OS works pretty well too.
