Re: New Lens for Nikon D40
Yep i was looking into that - it looks to be about 50 for a 400mm prime for a week. So that might be the way to go
![]() Are these guys any good, do you know? http://www.lensesforhire.co.uk/nikon...if-ed-45-p.asp (thought i might have a look at the teleconverter as well )EDIT: I was looking at the Sigma 70-300mm and possibly either getting/renting a 1.4x teleconverter, since it's online for about £115. Although whether the autofocus will be fast/necessary i don't know. Since most of the shots are going to be either taking off/landing, then i guess i can focus manually for a lot of it. One thing though, a lot of the reviews online comment that's it's quite soft at 200-300, as well as the focus being a bit slow/noisy. Any chance of this being a bit better with HSM? I presume that'll make it quieter, but whether it's faster or not.. Most of the reviews were done in 2005 when it was released, and i would have thought it would've improved a bit since then. |

Re: New Lens for Nikon D40
Have a look around on nikonian they have a list of TC / lens compatibility. Gut fealing is that at 300mm with aTC you lose AF, at least thats the case with the older models. TC compatibility can be a bit of a mine field, some lenses work with some makes of TC, others dont.

Re: New Lens for Nikon D40
I have the 55-200mm VR and it's a great in addition with the kit lens. There is an 18-200mm version which would replace the other, but it costs a fair bit more.

Re: New Lens for Nikon D40
Haven't used a TC with this beast, have a look at Nikonians forums, in the 3rd party lens area theres info on TC compatibility. At a guess you could probably mount it with a 1.4 TC, but no AF. Another good forums for lens info is birforums plenty of bigma users on there, along with lots using various TC setups.
