Cheap Digicam for a 4 year old.

I'm looking for a sub £50 camera for my 4 year old daughter. We're fed up with getting her films developed just to find that most of them are out of focus, or just photos of her feet, so we've decided it's time she went digital.

We need something that is small, durable, and easy to use. So far I've found this http://www.ebuyer.com/UK/product/113770 but any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

often deals to be had on there, starts at around £50 usually.

have you checked out your local camera stores? I think Jessops often have cheap 2nd hand cameras.

Thanks, It's definetly one to consider.

I just wonder how long it will be before she grows out of it and wants something a bit more like Mummy and Daddy's.

It's going to be a Christmas present by which time she won't be far off 5.

I hadn't really thought much about 2nd hand or refurbs. Since it's going to be a Christmas present, I'd ideally like it to be new. But it's worth thinking about. Thanks.

They sometimes have the one's you've linked to at ebuyer, in Tesco for around £30. Alternatively Kodak do the C330 at Amazon for £60 (with optical zoom).

Just re. your comment on refurbs - the s5600 I bought from the Fuji refurb shop might as well have been brand new - cosmetically it was sound and it served me well until I passed it across to the missus last weekend.

also if you're looking in a high street shop you can look over the camera before you buy to check for scratches etc. Ususally they look fine, you might just have to put a ribbon around the camera itself instead of an official box or something.

Those cameras are both rebranded cameras, most likely made by Premier. There would be no point in buying the £10 more expensive one unless the other isn't available. If you want dirt cheap 3mp digital cameras, then you can often get them off ebay for £15 including postage, although quality of images is generally crap at best unless you buy a proper brand camera (Kodak, Olympus, Canon, Sony, Fuji, etc)

I would go for the C330 - one's with optical zoom typically tend to have better image quality than one's without optical zoom. However, you might want to go for the one without optical zoom as the lens is less likely to be broken by someone trying to push the lens in when the batteries flat (a common occurance with kids apparently)

Some friends of mine have the basic Kodak camera with no optical zoom, and they good some good photos out of it. When they get them printed at 6x4 or 7x5 they look good - with good colour.

only trouble with the fisherprice one is that the layout is unlike any conventional camera design - i looked @ one for my son who is really into photography, but got a digi p+s for him instead..
