    Nikon S10

I know it isn't out until next week (according to play.com, one of the cheapest places) but anyone got any opinions on this camera?

I'd like a new compact to replace my slightly battered Sony DSC-P10, and with 10x optical, image stabilisation and ISO800 it should be decent enough for what i'm looking for. Also like the swizel lens/screen combo.

look at other brands - the 'top' brands tend to put a premium on the fact you're buying from them... canon, nikon especially.

Please, Don't ask for that one 'as a desktop'...its really not worth wasting your time asking, unless you're able to pay £££?

But what else has 10x optical + stabilisation that you can fit in your pocket?

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ1EB-K (catchy name) looks like it could be worth a look.

The Samsung NV7 has a massive lense sticking out the front, not exactly pocketable.

I forgot about Kodak, i always think of them having really uninspiring digital cameras, because thats what they used to be. Their new ones are a good bit better though. thanks for that.

My wifes work had a range of compacts on trial a while ago, all were in the £250 price range. In the end they chose the Nikon, mainly down to build quality. I also borrowed a few of them, and have to agee with their decission. You may get lower spec than other brands with Nikon, but you tend to get better switches, catches, lens, etc. Also having a viewfinder that auto gains is a god send. My wife still uses my old 2mp Nikon, unlike other cameras that friends have had its still going strong. I order to buy that camera I sold a higher spec konica. At the time my slr was a pentax, so had no brand loyalty.

As with all cameras, try before you buy, it doesent matter how good the spec is, if the controls are crap, menus are difficult to navigate its not worth getting.
