new toy (and a bit of a bargin, if anyone needs one..)

i've been toying with the idea of getting a dslr for a while - i'm doing a course at my local collage which involves lots of photography, and my bridge camera wasnt really up to it, so i bit the bullet.. was split between a 400d and a d80, but i couldnt really justify the extra £250 on a d80.. in the end (with some hassling, voucher codes and general luckiness) i got

    canon 400d + lens kit
tamron af70-300mm f4-5.6 lens (wanted something with a bit of length for surf-taken-from-the-shore shots)
    1 gig cf card
    bag
    remote

for just a smidge over £600. the lens is halfprice with the camera (so £100 instead of £200) and then got another £50 off from here -> http://www.vouchercodes.org/jessops-...essopscom.html

    - even though i hadnt spent £750! i think it took the total before the other offers were applied

i've just got it out and had a very quick play, fairly happy so far, a fair bit better in most ways than my other camera, loving being able to actually manual focus properly for once only downside was that jessops only had the naff silver body - not as nice as the black imo :'(

Please, Don't ask for that one 'as a desktop'...its really not worth wasting your time asking, unless you're able to pay £££?

    nice price there.

300mm is good for close breaks esp points and reefs, i often want 4-500mm for beach breaks tho. shame it costs so much!
