    Re: New Nikons !! ISO 3,280,000 !

I'm just imagining the marketing meeting that lead to the development of this camera:

We need bigger numbers! Add more megapixels!
But consumers have worked out that more megapixels isn't necessarily better; we risk looking stupid if we just bump up the megapixels.
So what else can we increase? What's this ISO thing?
well, we could theoretically increase that, but it wouldn't make better pictures.
Can you make it more than 1 million?
    Erm ... I guess so?
    Then do it! MegaISO!!!!!

They should probably implement some sort of pixel binning at higher ISOs so they are actually usable.

Or better yet focus on more DR and store say 16bit imagery!

I think many people have realised that current sensors often outperform lenses so the pixel war is over (unless someone can do better than bayer) so it's just going to be ISO and other such things.

Yeah but look at their pixel density! They aren't just jaw dropping resolution, they (go up to) honest full size medium format unlike the affordable 645z.

Because it's a geometric diminishing return on pixel count, it's hard for people on the whole to really measure the difference between a 25mp and a 50mp sensor.

But things like DR, are useful because they are already in a meaningful non linear scale. Most bad photographers can benefit from the 'reach' that a higher wider DR will give!

I think the other next big thing will be more 'AI' in autofocus. Canon have some interesting hybrid phase contrast technique, which in the hands of someone who can do research level AI could really improve photography for most users, I think we will see it in phones such as the Samsung which use a hybrid phase and contrast approach.

This kind of ISO war is a bit meaningless as it is so very useless at the level, not even at a pinch get a workable A5 print!

Looking good. Canon have also announced their equivalent.

I think most of us will be interested in the d900/5dmk4 cameras!
