    Oil cap milking up???

I had my trusty Seat Ibiza go for it's MOT on Satuday (failed due to worn tyres ) but that's not what worried me.

For a little while now, it's been milking up around the oil cap. I also seem to have lost a little bit of oomph lol

I've tried flushing the engine and changing oil filters and such but nothing seems to make any difference

I also know it's not the head gasket as I'm not losing any water.

The guy at the garage said it's normal for it to do it a little bit due to condensation but it seems a bit excessive to me

Anyone have any advice on what else I could check/change?

    Thanks

It depends what you use it for, if its lots of short journeys, or being driven hard from cold then your going to get mayo and damage the engine. If its long journeys and a well looked after car I'd be worried about the head gasket. Check the water to see if there is any oil in it, also, are you loosing oil?

Sounds to me like it is the head gasket

I use it for everything really. Everyday to and from work, which is about 45 minutes each way and then journeys in the evening.

The water is a bit dirty but it's always been that way even before it started milking.

No, it's never lost any oil.

I'm a bit reluctant to take the whole thing apart to check that gasket but if there's nothing else it could be, then that's what I'll do.

You can pressure test to see if there is a head gasket failure, any reasonable garage should be able to do it.

I know on my motorbike, (Honda Varadero) Mayonnaise on the cooler lid is down to short journeys, and not letting the engine warm up enough.

As has been said though, could be a problem with the head gasket.

Not a problem, if your not losing any water it can't be the head gasket, many engines do that.
An engine will produce a gallon of water for every gallon of petrol used.
Just keep wiping it clean, if it's easy to remove the rocker cover do that and give it a clean.

One thing other thing I've been suggested is to check the breather hoses and clean them with break cleaner. Does that sound familiar to anyone?

I really want to try anything little things that it might be before sending it in to have the head gasket looked at.

If its milking up badly the breather hoses will need cleaned as they are probably gunked up. Try putting in a more expensive oil next time too, the cheap stuff is bad for creating mayo.

I did use some cheap stuff at one point but lately I've used Castrol GTX Magnatec 15W40. That should be ok, shouldn't it?

I'll give the hoses a clean and flush the engine this weekend and see what happens.

Dirty water with mayo in the oil would make me consider the HG tbh but how many miles have you done and what age is the car ?

Changing to a better oil will make a difference, excluding the HG as mentioned certain veichles (I had a baby Varadero as well ) have issue with the oil not heating up enough to burn off moisture but as you do 45min drives that seems unlikley so my last question would be is your oil cap lid sealing ok ? Also are you 100% sure you have no oil residue floating on the water in the expansion tank ?

Ok thanks. I'll get some better oil and give that a go. I'll take it to the garage and get them to pressure test it and see what that comes back with.

Love mine, still a great learner bike, even in comparison to the CBR125...
