    Brakes squeal when hot?

Not so long ago I changed commute routes and it now involves quite a lot of country driving which I fully expect to have an effect on brake and tyre wear.

Today I noticed my brakes started squealing, when applied, from halfway through the journey. The same thing happened on the way back - first half is fine. At the end of the journey I can feel the heat coming from the hubs, both front (discs) and back (drums).

I've already booked my car in to have new front pads, before I realised it was only happening halfway in, assuming that squealing was just the usual mechanism for letting me know the pads were worn (plus the fact I know they're needing to be done relatively soon anyway).

Any more likely causes that should have me cancelling/changing the service? The brakes still work 100%

    Cheers,

    kalniel

just ask them to check the rear brakes and they will tell you if you need new front disks when you take the car in, most places would tell you if the disks are worn to the point its not worth just replacing the pads.

Dust can big factor with 'squealing'. You can get stuff called 'copra grease' - copper based grease(you could use it instead of arctic silver 5 ,which will cut a great deal of brake squeal.

Well front pads did need replacing, and they also cleaned and adjusted rears. All happy now, except my wallet.
