Honda jazz, swap casette with cd

Hi all, have just purchased the centre panel out of a wrecked Honda Jazz. I currently have a radio casette unit built in, and want to replace it with the radio cd I have just purchased. The radio cd unit is from a jazz of the same year as mine.

Would anybody out there know if it will be a straight swap, or whether I might need adaptor cables?

The set up of the built in unit looks identicle apart from the slot for a cd in place of a casette slot.

Any help greatly would be greatly appreciated.

As an add on and in response to all the praises sung about the honda jazz, I must have purchased a friday afternoon one.

At 17000 miles I hade to have a complete new gearbox, following the discovery of a noise from the area of the offside front wheel when driving. At the same time I had to have the whole A/C system changed. After making my dissapointment known to Honda ( It was at the end of the warranty period) honda gave me a voucher for a free full service. Perhaps I have just been unlucky, but I did not buy a Honda for these sort of problems. This year the radio stopped functioning, Honda quoted £1500 for a fitted replacement, hence the question at the start of this posting. I would be interested to hear if I am just unlucky, or has anybody out there also had similar problems with their jazz?

Honda jazz 1.4 auto se 2002, purchased new.
    regards
    mike

Should be just a straight swap.

The wiring looms in cars include wires for every single option available on that particular car, because it would be too costly to produce different looms for every variation. So even if the CD head unit required another connector (very highly unlikely anyway) it should be there behind the current unit.

You should only need adapter cables if you are putting an after market head unit in there. I don't know what Honda use for the stereos, but as an example VW and BMW use CANBus, which menas you need a £100 cable and processor to connect a standard head unit. Complete pain in the back side.

EDIT: and in case you didn't know, here's how to remove the head unit from a Jazz.

    Hi Funkstar,
Thanks very much for taking the time to read my posting and particularly for your response. Your point about making different looms for different kit makes sence to me, and gives me some needed encouragement to tackle the project, not like the old slide in units ay.

I found your link pictures and information helpful too, gives a little insight as to the actual fitting of the panel, and what I may run into during the project.

    Again many thanks.
    Regards
    mike c

No problem. And while you are at it you might be able to fit an Aux input as per the above guide
