peugeot 306 2.0ltr hdi. ecu problem.

I was wondering if any one out there has any idea on the following problem.
I left my 306 for 2 week while away on holiday, on return it refused to start. i have never had any previous problems. all the usual things checked, fuel immobiliser, but eventually put into main dealer. they checked it out and told me it required a new ecu. (lucas) at a cost of about £1000. as the car is 10 years old it is not worth spending this amount of money. although the car is immaculate, it has recently had timing belt, and water pump replaced rear discs and pads and a, mot. any info. would be greatly appreciated.

If you had everything else checked at an independent and it was all fine apart from the ECU then sounds like it's the ECU.

Ask yourself how many immaculate cars could you get for your £1000 - the worth it brings to the car may not be anything, but the worth to you in having an immaculate running car could well be even more.

is an ecu interchangable or do you have to get it programmed to the car. I know that the car is immaculste, but i only paid £800 for it just under a year ago, it was a trade in at a local garage where my friend is the sales manager.

If you can find an unlocked ECU (around the £200 mark) I'm lead to believe it wont need the keys pairing.
