Clio Sport 172 (MK I) engine idle probs

    Lo all!

    I have a Clio Sport 2.0Ltr 172 Mk I

Its always been regularly serviced by Renault and recently had to have a new camshaft (damned expensive too), as one of the valves wasn't closing properley.

The trouble is that while the car runs fine whilst driving, I get a slight idle "bump". The rev counter stays fine at whatever the car is sposed to idle at, but its ever so slightly uneven.

I've taken this to the local garage and they mentioned something about the "aplha sensor" or something like that. It passed the emissions test with flying colours so thats fine, its just this is niggling me. Anyone out there know anything about this? Apparently this sensor should be repleced every 50k, but no one does it?? Is this expensive?

Anyway - just been annoying me as I luuurve the drive of this car

Uneven idle can be all sorts. Clios don't idle that well at the best of times really

When were the plugs changed last? HT leads?

Had a service and the plugs and HT leads were changed then. Also has a new camshaft, follower and pulley kit added too.

Going to change the oil (think its good stuff in there but its worth a try )

    I've had a mk2 172 and a 182 and both had an unven idle.

Not massive, but enough to be noticed when stationary.

    How bad is it?

No its not too bad, just a kind of "bump" when I'm stationary and the car requieres a little more revs than most other cars to get going (not that I have too much trouble - but my g/f does )

Sounds like a mixture problem, check there's no air leaks, or maybe a small vacuum pipe off?
